resom "What have I done to deserve this ❤️"(kaput mix 013)

Around 2000 in Leipzig, Germany: Hypezig, gentrification and techno capitalism was in the distant future.

At that time we enthusiastically experienced Resom's first DJ sets in the basement of Giro e.V. in Connewitz, a district of Leipzig where Connwax was also founded. As member of the former Homo Elektrik collective in Leipzig as well as her current home base at ://about blank and Palomabar in Berlin, the avid vinyl collector further developed her style to an expression of organic diversity, emotional spaces and atmospheric energy. Besides, she has been actively engaged in the social and cultural side of the music scene curating the multifaceted conceptual event „The Amplified Kitchen“ in addition to her work for the last ten years teaching DJ workshops for women and regular radio show “Complex” at refugeworldwide.com.

It's all about resonance, feedback, depth, transparency and honesty, connection and shadows. We are happy to share Resom's driving exploration of contemporary techno!

With her mixing prowess, the mix twists between rolling drum workouts, acid laced cuts, deep and moody techno and percussive monsters. Resom blends the elements together into a striking and powerful podcast.

Connwax Selected #017 | resom

Occasionally when two creative forces cross paths, the result can be an enigmatic exchange of pure inspiration, a web of connections that continually grows with imaginative impulses firing off like synapses in every direction. Such was the case when Unrush-founder Mareena and her dear friend Resom began collaborating at the end of 2020. The resulting project, entitled M2N2, was born as a result of their shared love for all things ambient, with both possessing an extensive catalog of records that spans all of the genre's many facets. Their first appearances solidified the collaboration as a worthy endeavor, with well-received contributions to the CCC Online Festival and gigs in Mexico at the Cervantino Festival in Guanajuato and the Hertzflimmern Event in Mexico City. 

For this month's Unrush mix we are presented with a recording clocking in at just over 2 hours where the two friends playfully react and interact with one another, digging deep into the corners of their respective collections. It's just in time for the warmer days where things can get hectic, a gentle reminder to slow down, be present, and foster the connections you have that enable you to grow...

Am Deck 12 - Resom

Hailing from Germany’s leafy heartland via Leipzig, Nadine Moser has found a spiritual home in Berlin for the last 12 years. The capital has provided space for her to flourish as an artist whose work focuses on both the exploration of new sounds, as well as a political energy so key to the city. From here, she coordinates a schedule which includes residencies at left-leaning haunts Pudel (Hamburg), Paloma and ://about blank, as well as a radio show on Refuge Worldwide and mentorship of women and non-binary artists for Spoon DJ Workspace. For the music itself, she has a preference for deep, organic sounds, subtle build up and introvert melodies (worth noting here is ambient side project M2N2). Rarely will she release cuts from a live set, which makes Bassiani Podcast 153 a lucky exception. If you do want to count your blessings though, this is number two in the Podcast series: a 138 minute mix from her last visit to the club, packed with shuffling basslines, ethereal synths and libertine energy, lovingly dedicated to the Horoom crowd. Resom’s techno return to grassroots.

Berlin-based Resom’s meandering electronics have guested the Bassiani Podcast a couple of times, here she gets lost in thought once more for Zenaari Mix 005. This one’s far from a wool-gathering exercise, her selection and mixing are deep, provocative, and wonderfully percipient, little else to expect from someone whose path has encompassed so many different areas. Her work confidently mines a wealth of experience across club residencies and activism, and delivers results that are a pure joy to witness. This one covers every base, from softly gliding synths to slightly more controlled percussive meditations, an exploration of heterogeneous bleeps and ruminant echoes, a dreamy IDM waltz that's worth its weight in silicon.

Resom is part of the beating heart of Berlin. As a resident at the city’s ://about blank she creates resonant musical soundtracks and very real dance floor experiences from whatever is needed - be it electro, techno, house or ambient. Rather than focussing on genres, Resom focusses on a range of moods and does the same on her travels whether playing our festival in Amsterdam or an intimate club in London. Also a political activist, booking agent and gender equality campaigner, she is a new breed of artist who is mindful of how important her voice and platform can be in the dance world. 

The mix she serves up for us is one of there longest we’ve had, and over more than two hours offers pad-laced stimulation for the mind as well as jerky machine rhythms that will make you move.“This mix has no deeper concept then to simply let go from having a concept”, Resom adds. Her contribution to our series is often dark and stripped back, there are curveball moments of wildness and heads down passages of electronic funk. Typically free from easy genre signifiers, this is dynamic music that always keeps you guessing.

You might already be familiar with Resom (@resi-resom)’s story: originally from the German state of Thuringia, she started out throwing parties in abandoned spaces in Leipzig, the city that was central to her musical education. Since moving to Berlin, she’s found a home as a resident DJ at ://about blank. Along the way, she’s become a prominent voice in the electronic music scene, both musically and politically, believing the politics is as important to expression and communication as the music itself. 

Her Patterns of Perception 62 is part of a sound triptych of three connected mixes, a series that both explores and reflects her feelings about this difficult collective moment of ours. Unlike the diverse and eclectic party sets for which she has become known, here she takes it down a gear and delivers an ambient mix embedded in nature - offering up the perfect soundtrack for a walk in the woods, a long meditative run, or just quiet home reflection as we adjust to the new world order.
