...the man called Prosumer is besotted with it. Since Achim Brandenburg heartily grabbed the microphone under this moniker in 2005 for Frankfurt’s then undisputed Label Playhouse, he showed that lasciviousness, a fever for Chicago’s Jack flavour and consciousness of tradition aren’t necessarily bound to a time and a place. Vision, passion and knowledge make Prosumer a guardian of house music history and one of the formative artists, influential DJs and important producers of our days.
While deriving his name from Alvin Toffler’s techno sci-fi-bible The Third Wave (producing and consuming at the same time), Prosumer lives up to his name. With more than a decade of Hard-Wax-Record-Store-enculturation on the clock (first in Saarbrucken, then Berlin), he spent countless nights in clubs, days looking for music and years refining his art and becoming in line with the “big three”. This is not a reference to Detroit’s car companies, but the city’s musical heritage that – together with the Big Apple and the Windy city – laid the foundation for techno and house builds with the Big Apple and the Windy City.
Prosumer oscillates between these poles. That holds true for his productions, which are affected by references and historical vertexes, but never feel to be out of time or place. An album with Murat Tepeli and collaborations with Tama Sumo expand his discography for labels like the aforementioned Playhouse, Running Back or Swayzak’s 240 Volts. On the other hand – and that might be far more important – this is exemplary for his DJ work since the mid-nineties. Prosumer connects the tracks and songs of this music’s golden age with the worthwhile pieces and developments of today. Accordingly to that special feeling which is so hard to couch, he gets engaged in it from tip to toe – and so does his audience. Proved by his mission as one of the residents in Berlin’s influential club institution, on his official mix CD for that place that describes his spectrum of sound perfectly and by this certain magic that travels with and in him everywhere.

As relevant today as he ever was, Kerri Chandler has been steeped in DJing and house music since he was a boy. As he mourns the passing of his first and biggest influence, we celebrate one of our most timeless icons.

Kerri Chandler is a king and his cover mix is a perfect, extended example of the legacy he will lead. The two hour mix features 35 tracks of absolute gold.

It's a bumping house voyage that features tracks from S-Man, Art Department, Apollonia and The Martinez Brothers. Listen below and it goes without saying that we should all: hail to the king.

After starting the mini Dekmantel Selectors podcast series last year, we couldn’t resist continuing it with artists from this year's line-up. In the next couple of months, we will release 5 podcasts by some of our favourite artists. This year’s podcast theme is all about 'another side of me', wherein the artists show another side of theirselves.

Next on is Izabel Caligiore, who runs the impeccable Lullabies For Insomniacs record label and blog. LFI emerged as a radio show on Melbourne’s 106. 7 PBS FM but has found a new home on Red Light Radio after she relocated to Amsterdam. Both the imprint and the online portal show her deep love for unearthed electronics, modern classical gems and ambient music. 

For the 15th mix on these series, Izabel took some time to prepare a mix where she shows another side of herself. "This mix is about intensity and challenges. I recorded it in the confinements of my living room and I enjoyed every minute, although I'm not sure my neighbours did. Playing with and around the beat."

"It feels like I started all over from scratch," Kerri Chandler told us in a recent interview. He was of course referring to his relationship with Circo Loco, the Italian party brand based out of DC-10 in Ibiza. After a period of persuasion Chandler agreed to play for the crew at their 2010 opening/closing party and has since become an integral part of the family, making multiple appearances throughout the 2011 season and generally stepping up his worldwide DJ presence. It was evident in our talking with Chandler that the partnership had rejuvenated him in many ways, although that's not to say he was somehow struggling before. Chandler is known as one of New Jersey/New York's most celebrated and important house music practitioners, with a recording career stretching back to 1991 and a classics-lined discography to prove it. As part of our on-going VS series, Chandler will link up with Chez Damier—himself a revered house music institution—for a back-to-back session this coming Saturday night at BeCool in Barcelona for our annual off-Sonar soiree. 

Rolling, timeless house music is the order of the day on RA.315, a warm-up to this Saturday's festivities and a showcase of where Chandler is at in 2012."
