On Dec 7th we brought #RAtwentyfourseven to FOLD, London. A rave utopia across a labyrinth of spaces. From dubstep through to drum and bass, to house and techno, each chapter in the capital’s musical history was told via some of our favourite DJs both experienced and emerging. As we move into the new year, we look back at some of the most important sets from the weekend, with artists who define the ethos of London raving and its diverse sounds.

An enterprising spirit that rose to prominence through the world of experimental club music, Air Max '97 has streamlined his sound and renewed his focus the last few years. Part-in-hand to the time he's put into the curation of his label DECISIONS, the release of his debut album Nacre last year also proved a pivotal achievement in terms of distilling his new ideas into something succinct and impactful. With Batu recently tapping him up for a 12" on Timedance, he seems to have found a perfect stride working within the realms of functionality, groove and  sound design. We caught up with Oli to discuss the geographic immersion of his debut LP, his collaborative productions with AYA, the output and experience of running his own label, and his pop-sensibilities from working on music with Don Sinini. His Truancy Volume, which he describes as being a faithful representation of his current club sets, uses DECISIONS material as the core foundation of the tracklist. Shifting tempos, rhythmic patterns and thick textures into an hour long mix, it's a mind-bending trip shelling through all sorts of club flavours. Take note of the Tink edit near the beginning and a throwback gem courtesy of MMM.

Sometimes, 2 Bad Mice, the seminal UK hardcore duo, just hammer out the classics. Other times, like at RA twenty four/seven, they play deeper and edgier. Either way, the end result is largely the same: slamming breakbeats and flashes of euphoria, expertly mixed.

By 8 PM, FOLD was gently rocking. Fabio, a DJ with over 30 years experience, was tasked with taking it up another gear, treating the crowd to 60 minutes of smooth, soulful jungle and drum & bass.

DJ Bus Replacement Service's ability to play music that truly no-one else would touch marks her as one-in-a-million. When you begin a live set with chipped audio of bickering conversation, slide into an edit of Eiffel 65's "Blue (Da Ba Dee)", move through alien trap, Russian Hardbass and super-sweet pop whimsy – all while wearing a Kim Jong-un mask – and watch the crowd swell and bounce nonstop from there, you've mastered your own niche. She set off the HMT micro-rave at RA 24/7 as only she can do.

The booth for HMT Hard Cru's micro-rave propped open a lift with walls plastered in memes, and the DJs donned boiler suits reading "WITCH HOUSE" and "BLOG HOUSE." That was only the beginning of the fun. Just when you think this ride couldn't get any more wild, keep listening for the next ridiculous (maybe better: ridonkulous) edit or unthinkable mashup.
