NWB weekly podcasts continue with a jacking otherworldly set from Mike Servito — featured as part of No Way Back: Streaming From Beyond 2021. As the unknown loomed so large for all of us in the last of our major streams, Servito brought a graceful power of mystery to the grooves he laid down. 

In his own words: "I was always fond of otherworldly sounds, alien textures, and musical escapism. Acid has always been a sonically, alien interaction and a greater part of the musical fabric of No Way Back for me. The main objective was simply to get lost in the groove."

Clear as spring water, the memory of Shoal's beautiful live set echoing through the Norwegian mountains, finally sharing the stage together at Monument (@monument-podcast) after meeting in Amsterdam several years ago. Those familiar with our dear friends at Harmony Rec (@harmony-rec) will be undoubtedly familiar with Kenny's impeccable body of work, and for the rest an eye-opening treat awaits. Here, Kenny gathers highlights from his recent live sets and newly recorded material, arranged and refined into a perfect contemplation of the crisp arboreal air, a vivid composition of body and sound entwined tightly beneath the earth. Based in NYC, and with a background as a DJ, writer, and event organizer, Lychee's (@lycheefrut) underground energy is evident in every set they craft. With regular appearances at Basement, Nowadays, and Bossa Nova Civic Club, Lychee also runs Spontaneous Affinity, a monthly mix and interview series and occasional event platform, and the label Unimatrix Zero, as well as serving on the board for the Aslice Foundation.

Drawing inspiration from recent musical explorations at Nowadays in NYC in particular, Lychee's Patterns of Perception 116 showcases a return to their musical foundations in hypnotic, dubby, wormholey techno. Embracing a more focused, classic feel than many of their recent dancefloor explorations, this mix infuses a sense of narrative and evolution, effortlessly blending darkness and light, corporeality and sentimentality.

Ahead of the work we are doing with Detroit veteran Craig Gonzalez this year, here is a mix he’s done exploring new rhythms and soundscapes. We thought it would be prudent to share a mix of one of his many fresh perspectives, where he explores something we at IT find very compelling — new juxtapositions of polyrhythms and drum and bass within a deeply hypnotic techno context. 

"I’ve really been enjoying exploring the sonic space between techno and drum and bass. What excites me about this fusion is how it challenges both myself and fans of these genres, as it often defies the expectations of each. The introduction of polyrhythms takes it even further, pushing the boundaries and making the music feel truly genre-agnostic. In this space, the emphasis shifts away from traditional structures, focusing more on rhythm and context than on genre conventions.

This mix is a studio recording rather than a live set from an IT event because I feel that this style of music requires a more intentional approach to the context of an event. It hasn’t quite aligned with the atmosphere of my time slots—at least, not for now." — Craig Gonzalez @craig-gonzalez
