The boundaries that define the identity of each artist are not always obvious. Regularfantasy and Limbe are very appropriate guests when it comes to this subject. Dedicated to proposing original sonorities, they enjoy composing and enriching modern sets with the crossroads of influences that energize today's house music.

Next up, welcome Sneaker DJ 👋 

His musical upbringing started out in the Detroit and Chicago space, before further influences like obscure Italo, new wave and minimal synth gems. He's based out of his part-time-hometowns Berlin and Dresden, where he operates the TailOut mastering studios with long-time collaborator Jacob Korn. We were first introduced to him via his impeccable edits on Deep Cover #8. In his own words:

"The mix was recorded for the Needsome radio show and was aired only once on Radio Dreyeckland, Freiburg/Germany.

The session is showcasing curation and craftsmanship that was developed on the fly without sync buttons or a defined order. The selection follows a pattern of progressive music - the majority from the 90s, from Detroit and all Western Europe. A vivid mental image of what Sneaker would have envisioned as the retro trend for 2024 unlike all that generic, shallow trance and gabba.

I had and even to this day have the feeling that my fellows in the radio studio didn't realise what they were witnessing. Despite my usual uncommon selections from a background of 30 years of digging, I played the obvious - even classics (you'll be surprised). These are - nevertheless -  unknown to the unknown.

I blended these tunes with dirty friction - cause I dare to play 3 decks. Harmonic mixing - cause I am not deaf unlike most DJs. If you are a selector (LOL) jerking off on your rotary - let me tell you straight to your face: you are lacking skilltalentandinspiration to add MUSICALITY. Cause yours is no art ... cause it lacks artistry!"

OKO DJ is a core member of a few key collectives: the first is the Brothers From Different Mothers label she has been signed to, and the second is LYL Radio, where she heads up the Paris department and hosts the monthly Synchronisme ou Barberie with the Bruits de la Passion crew, as well as her own women-only show Pu$$y Nightmare. She is utterly diverse in the music she plays, which ranges from doom laden psych to 80s synth to cold body music via futuristic soundscapes. Mixing with a focus on vibe and feeling rather than scene or style, she is freed up to go wherever the music takes her. 

And so it is that her mix starts with an energised spoken word monologue then transitions to experimental beats, spooky synth tracks and jungle all within the first fifteen minutes. Dark and foreboding passages are often offset by more exotic moments of calming ambiance and for every frazzled synth and blizzard of drums there is a restorative dub moment to reset the mood. Such a series of highs and lows, darks and lights is not often found in the same set, and what’s what sets OKO DJ apart.
