“We’ve come to a point where people know who’s behind all my other projects. There’s no use to keep coming up with nicknames if it’s clear to people that it’s me again, but with another brand name. By now, people know that I try to produce within a very broad musical range, so it’s alright to use my own name."

SEKOIA Podcast #025 - Roman Flügel

Calling Michael Mayer one of the most important people currently active in the electronic music industry would be far from a stretch. He's the co-founder of Kompakt, one of the biggest record labels and distribution agencies in the world (being home to over 50 independent record labels). Besides that, he's a very busy DJ and also a more than prolific producer, whose total number of remixes has surpassed the 140 mark already for instance.

To be able to be active and competent in so many fields, he maintains a tight and very regular schedule. We spoke to him about that, Amsterdam Dance Event and his family life and you can read all about that in the latest issue of DJ Mag NL. The Netherlands has no shortage of celebrated DJs and producers, but now it is time to shine a light on one that is deserving of a much wider audience. Amsterdam’s Interstellar Funk is a young record hound and talented producer who loves real melody in his music. He releases on (and works at) Rush Hour and has put his textured sounds out on his own Tape Records label - it ranges from slow and absorbing to more urgent and physical, and his DJ sets are just as brave and far reaching. 

As a former Trouw resident, Interstellar Funk reaches far and wide for the records that make up his DJ sets. This tight one hour selection proves that as it transitions through cosmic melodic jams to corrugated electro and deep acid house. It makes for a mix that operates in a rich synth galaxy full of space dust and retro-future nostalgia. So, enjoy his absorbing mix and then get ready for his debut track on the Dekmantel label, a contribution to the Patta x Dekmantel compilation.

Infected by the house and techno virus as a teenager growing up in the north-east of England, and driven by his desire for eternal summer, six years ago Garry Todd began a nomadic life of Australian beach life, Balearic party island insanity and British summer.

As a DJ, producer and party organizer, he quickly became a central figure in the newly burgeoning club scene in and around Sydney, with his legendary 'Bread & Butter' parties and regular headliner-sets at festivals like Playground Weekender and Stereosonic alongside artists like Jimpster and Ricardo Villalobos. The uniquely styled globetrotter refers to the latter as a great source of inspiration for his own sound, besides Soul Capsule, Basic Channel and the music of his buddies Acid Mondays. Speaking of sound, Todd is far away from committing himself to the zeitgeist and instead is raging nimbly throughout the House genre.

Now, following several well-received releases on his own label Contemporary Scarecrow, Garry Todd follows up with his debut album "Nora Lilian" on BPitch Control. "Nora Lilian" is an album in which a psychedelic soul dwells, that sometimes gets lost in rapturous atmospheres and in particular it is an album that is always aimed at the dance floor in a charming and determined way.

Anticipating the album Gary was kind enough to submit an exclusive mix to us to highlight his diverse skills, as well as catching up for a quick chat about the album, his inspirations, the studio, and anticipating his Berghain debut next month.
