It’s all about the music first and foremost. Play what excites you and remember everyone has their own journey - patience is key.

About the mix:
I recorded this mix on a beautiful spring afternoon, which at the moment is rare for London as we’ve been deprived of any sun recently! I roughly sketched it out and then pressed play on the first track, beginning the recording as the sun was setting and by the time i finished it was dark outside. I was fully in my own world when recording this and it felt good to take things a bit deeper and have those emotional moments, with tracks such as Roman Flugal’s Lucy, which for me is such a beautiful song and Hollis P Monroe’s ‘I’m Lonely’ which is one of my all time favourite tracks. The mix is a real groover with some trippy moments, it ramps up, but never fully smashes through the front door.

They were set up with the aim of bridging the gender imbalance in the music industry, specifically for women and non binary people to connect, learn and grow. London's Moxie (@djmoxie) has always embodied a fearless approach to DJing. Her sets are driven by her famously eclectic taste and can go from deep Detroit techno to face-melting bass via loved-up disco in an instant. She made her name as one of the earliest hosts on NTS Radio but is now a favourite of the global underground who has often impressed at our own events. Her "Moxie Presents" compilations have shown her dedication to championing forward-thinking artists and have helped make her a genuine new school tastemaker.

This week Moxie has put together a breezy jaunt through many different facets of her sound. There are balmy summer pads and carefree house beats to start with then things head indoors for deeper, darker sounds but always saved up with plenty of warmth and emotion. This mix is a perfect encapsulation of how Moxie can take you from the early evening to late into the night without you even noticing.

Over several years, Guenter Schlienz has graced labels such as Constellation Tatsu, Sacred Phrases, S.I.N.K. CDs, SicSic, Preservation so we are very excited here at Rural Colours to be added to that list with his latest work Peace.

After noticing that several friends had begun to end emails marked 'Peace', Guenter Schlienz, ever full of questions, started to ponder on the meaning of the word in this context.  Around the same time he started to read Henry Miller's book 'The Collossus of Maroussi' and was intrigued by a couple of paragraphs devoted to exactly this question: what is "the meaning of peace". He came to the conclusion that there is much more to "peace" than just the absence of war.  The albums track titles are words by Henry Miller, and the work is Guenter's humble attempt to gather sounds and atmospheres around those lines.

Using modular synths combined with tape loops, analog and digital delays, vintage electronic organ and guitar, Schlienz works within a romantically inward looking framework, creating music that comes from deep within.  His compositions reflect themes of tenderness, alienation and homecoming and feature a range of guest musicians including Masako Kamikawa (piano on  'Reverberation of the Pandemonium') and Niko Lazarakopoulos (guitar on 'Faint Whispers') and even an anonymous busker from the streets of Stuttgart on 'Who Put the Demons There?'

Six years ago, Russian-born Marina Rubinstein was a raver living in Tel Aviv with dreams of becoming a DJ. After saving up enough money, she bought a one-way ticket to Berlin, where she quickly worked her way up from playing small rooms to 20 people to playing the world's biggest techno club, Berghain.

Dr. Rubinstein's story is a familiar one, but her love of '90s acid techno and life-affirming rave tunes helped the fledgling DJ to stand out in a city then dominated by darker, more hypnotic sounds. Today, she's a globally respected selector with a joyous, life-affirming style.

This week's FACT mix is a snapshot of Dr. Rubinstein's dreamier side, packed with hazy breakbeat, electro and acid; it rarely climbs above 115BPM, with tracks from Lake Haze, Holger Flinsch and Legowelt amongst the tracks that will have spotters taking notes. It's one for the 7am crew.

Q. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? 
A. My name is Lesly Remy also known as Blacklauren, founding member & one half of The Long Count Cycle.

Q. How long have you been involved in the NY music scene? 
A. I have been involved in NYC from about 1996, first as a hip-hop DJ occupying every space from party-goer to roadie & record crate carrier, DJ battle contestant to guest MC at Dubwar & eventually everything you’ve come to know and love about The Long Count.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. I started this mix unaware that I would be called on to participate, however, I was determined to make a contribution to the series as best as I could and wanted to present aspects of my musical background that went beyond techno, beyond the dance floor. I take inspiration from my experiences in everything I do, as such, I want to present something that references my musical upbringing which included messages of black liberation and the black experience in general. With the deaths of Ahmaud Aubrey, Breonna Taylor & George Floyd this mix took on a certain sense of necessity.
