We take a trip across the pond for our next podcast, because it comes from the celebrated New York based Detroit that is Mike Servito. Best known for his impressive closing sets, be they at Bunker, where he is resident, or at Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Servito is a passionate vinyl fiend and is said to spend most of his fees on buying more of the stuff. Only in the last year or so has he broken out of local circles in New York and Detroit, and that is purely off the back off his DJing ability because he is not a producer. The DJ sets he does, though, are uncompromising things that he painstakingly researches and puts together for often for a whole week before playing. 

The podcast he has served up for us is just as tight.  It wastes no time in getting down to business and starts with plenty of unhinged acid techno. Of course, the mixing is slick and seamless, records are teased in an out with an expert hand and the beats range from tightly coiled and kinetic to more spaced out and trippy. It’s 90 minutes of expert DJ perfection and proves the Ghostly associate is one of the best there is.

Over the last two years, South-London's Ploy has emerged amongst an exciting new wave of genre defying, UK talent.  His detailed approach to rhythm and “relentlessly tribal” sound is one that caught the attention of highly respected labels such as the mighty Hessle Audio, Batu's Timedance and that British stalwart, Hemlock Recordings.

For his Dimensions mix, Ploy (aka Sam Smith) brings a similar distinctiveness to the table, that whilst differing from his production output, comes from an equally unique and recognisable place.  Here, Smith gives us a powerful, no holds-barred hour of bass-heavy rhythms, featuring music from the likes of rRoxymore, Duran Duran Duran and Gescom, as well as some secret gems for you to pore over...

Anthony "Shake" Shakir is a rare kind of Detroit Techno living legend - he is an authentic iconoclast. He co-wrote "I Believe" with Octave One for Transmat, was the first Detroit artist to work with breakbeats for his "5% Solution" record for Metroplex / Interface, is on the 1988 Virgin Detroit Techno album, has released on KMS and its subsidiaries, edited the early Carl Craig tunes Psyche "Elements" and BFC "Galaxy" for Transmat and Fragile respectively, won The Electrifyin' Mojo's mix contest "The Mixodrome" while still in high school, and taught Claude Young to DJ before they formed a label called Frictional that Shake still helms. At our March 17, 2018 party "Midwest Freaks" where we celebrated some of the Midwest's finest iconoclasts, Shake delivered a blistering ode to all the edges and possibilities of Detroit Techno.
