A journey through 35 years of house from the godfather of UK rave. 

In popular mythology, the '90s are without question, the halcyon days of dance music—an era of free raves and unadulterated hedonism. It's a myth that Matthew Nelson, AKA Slipmatt, knows better than most–he was there. 

During the late '80s, as the rave scene in the UK began to boom, Nelson began moonlighting as a DJ. He would land his first residency at Raindance, the East London rave that launched in September 1989 and would become the UK's first legal rave. By 1991 , he'd reach number two in the UK charts with "On A Ragga Tip" as one-half of SL2 and two years later, sell over 10,000 copies of the first pressing of SMD#1.

Nelson has got a lot to share (as you'll see in his interview) so we'll let him do the talking. He's been variously called the godfather of rave and happy hardcore, but what you'll hear on RA.958 is as "a journey through my 35 years of house." A DJ with this much pedigree brings much more than that, of course: touching on the breakbeat, jungle and acid house that soundtracked that golden age, as well as nods to the rich cross-pollination with scenes beyond the UK, from Joey Beltram's "Energy Flash" to Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You."

Hailing from the South West of England, DJ Minali is a dynamic, multi-genre DJ known for sets that traverse Drum & Bass, Tech House, Breaks, and beyond. Drawing inspiration from pioneering acts like Underworld, Roni Size, and Hallucinogen, her sound blends deep musical knowledge with a fearless approach to mixing. Since her breakthrough in 2023 with last minute set in the Techno room at Tribe of Frog, DJ Minali has been on a sharp rise. In early 2024, she joined Bath-based label and collective PTRNS as a resident DJ, further cementing her place in the South West’s electronic music scene. Her summer 2024 schedule included major support slots for artists such as Keeno, Danny Byrd, 808 State, and The Orb, as well as appearances at Nozstock and Boomtown Festival.

Currently supporting The Orb on their 2025 UK tour, DJ Minali continues to evolve her sound while staying true to her roots. Offstage, she works with Psy-Sisters Music on A&R and release campaigns, supporting emerging talent and expanding her industry reach. She is also working closely with artist management agency 7AM (7artistmanagement) to develop new creative projects for the year ahead.

Whether playing underground raves, festival stages, or intimate club nights, DJ Minali brings raw energy, genre-blending creativity, and a deep love for music to every performance. With her profile rising and constantly expanding her audiences across different genres, she’s one to watch.
