It is hard to imagine the London underground before Enzo Siragusa minted the FUSE brand. This is a bold claim, but it is a totally fair comment given the mark that both Enzo and his brainchild have had on today’s current tech house sound. What is even more impressive is that it didn't seem so long ago we were discussing FUSE turning 10, now another landmark is on the horizon and even after 15 years there is no slowing down. It is impossible to discuss Enzo without heaping praise on FUSE, but there is much more to this unassuming raver than just his clubbing brand. His roots as a raver still informs everything that he does both in front and behind the decks and we doubt that this will ever change. Our next live recording comes from longtime festival friend and collaborator Wax Material.

The Wax Material van has been a quirky corner of the festival for six years, growing from selling records into a space that’s hosted some of the best DJs Gottwood has to offer.

As this is the first time Wax Material has played a stage other than the van, it felt only right to have this set as part of the mix series. Jessie’s set on the Lighthouse was just as you’d imagine, broad, eclectic and full of deep cuts. It showcased her knack for selecting amazing and unique records that kept the crowd  locked in throughout.

We’re excited to welcome her to the mix series, as the Wax Material and Gottwood stories are intertwined. Her taste and style shine through in her selections, crossing garage, house, broken beat and minimal.

With the season drawing to a close, this mix is the perfect way to look back on what’s been an incredible year of music and look ahead to what’s on the horizon for next summer’s Gottwood.

The Tunnel has always been our favourite room at Just Jack, so being able to play there twice on the final party was pretty special. This particular set was before Luke Una, who’s become one of my favourite DJs over the last few years, so there was definitely a sense of pressure to get the vibe right and hand over the room in the right place.

What I wanted to do was balance a nod to the past with something that still felt fresh. There are a few dojo-era throwbacks in there – low-slung, sleazy house bits,  alongside some of my personal favourites from the last decade. But the main thread running through it is acid. That sleazy and rolling that still has enough groove and oomph to hold the floor.

I was conscious that Danilo Plessow  was in the main room so I didn’t want to try and out disco him, but  Luke was coming on after me, so I wanted the set to keep its eclectic edge but still drive forward. Id like to think that some of the newer bits kept it interesting, tracks from the likes of Thomas Jackson, Chez, and The Revenge – mixed in with some classics to give it balance.

Overall, it was about creating something that felt like a proper closing of The Tunnel. A nod to 20 years of Just Jack, with enough new ideas to keep it interesting, and a room full of dancers to hand over to Luke with.
