For Respekt 176 we're pleased to welcome back Transcode and SAMA, who have both featured on the label before, but this time combine their powers for a behemoth of a release. First up is Transcode's solo outing 'Eternal Gateway', a blissed-out synth daydream with breathy sequences dancing over an emotive reese bass and galloping drums. On 'Rectify' you can hear both producers' distinct styles shining through with a tougher, but still euphoric direction.

A mainstay of the Second State label, Michael Klein’s back catalog has now expanded to include 11releases with the Berlin imprint. ‘Golden Hour’ is a classic high-energy and versatile contribution from Klein, with 5 mesmerizing techno tracks.

Opener and title track ‘Golden Hour’ kicks off with strong synergy between the kick, bass, and percussion. Moving & rising at controlled pace, Klein brings in off-kilter keys and a smooth arpeggio. Next up is ‘VoiceInterrupt’ which uses twisted melodies and pitch distortions to create a tense but energetic energy. Minimal shakers and a solitary hi-hat add texture to the track whilst keeping the arrangements tight and bouncy. ‘InMy Own Eyes’ starts off minimal and subdued, with a rotary synth that eventually breaks through and takes command. Subtle industrial elements are used but hidden under shakers, coming to the forefront during a brief interlude of the main synth-line.

Following is ‘Howlip’ with a uniform kick, hi-hat, and a jagged synth combo that dance menacingly throughout. A sample of the cut’s name chimes in at varied volumes, at times battling against the main groove and recurring electro-twinged synth. A driving and peak-time dance-floor weapon. The finale of the EP ‘One Eyed Master’ is dominated by piping, high-frequency keys that bubble under the main kick, and sharp single hi-hat. Varying in intensity as the track drives on, the keys create a dystopian yet uneasy atmosphere. Klein again plays with the balance of percussion and pitch to manipulate the mood created in the track, an obvious theme and technique applied throughout the EP.

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

One of our label favourites The Reactivitz returns for Respekt 158. Title track 'Oudjat' combines his trademark razor-sharp percussion with eerie atmospherics and scything synths for a no nonsense dancefloor workout. 'I Can Wait' takes things in a more epic direction, with synth chords and sirens paired with a memorable vocal hook.
The supporting remixes come from Rudosa, who puts a tougher spin on 'I Can Wait', and Joe Blake, who dubs out a moody interpretation of 'Oudjat'

RESPEKT is the label manifestation of the internationally recognised artist duo Spektre. As two of the most widely respected techno artists to come out of the UK in recent times, founders Paul Maddox & Richard Wakley have travelled the world in the past three years performing the Spektre LIVE show, to rapturous acclaim.
