A l’origine, Simca Rose fait partie des 7 titres du premier EP de Ray Mason Abe, Groundworks, sorti à l’été 2021. La version retravaillée de ce single transporte l’auditeur dans une dimension bien propre à l’artiste dont les fondations se sont sensiblement étoffées. Les basses fréquences sont harmonieusement puissantes, les lignes de synthé rétro donnent une touche vintage presque intemporelle, et les build-ups cinématiques créent une tension électrisante. Cette création explosive nous ramène à la synth pop des années 90, soutenue par des rythmes breakbeat et techno pour un groove particulier et efficace.

"It all started as we took our 1 year old son for a little family outing to our local, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. As we sat down to watch the afternoon ‘Aboriginal Culture Show’, I decided to field record the performance. Straight away I was blown away by Luthers’ rich and soulful voice. Luther is a proud Yugambeh man, who strives to bond all Australians through song, dance and art. “The Aboriginal culture – the histories, the stories – they belong to this land and so if you are Australian, they belong to you too”, he says.

A few weeks later ‘Jingeri’ (meaning “welcome”) was made through the alchemy of Luthers’ samples and my hardware. I then approached Luther to show him ‘Jingeri’ and to see if he would be interested in collaborating. I was delighted when I could see his enthusiasm for the project and we locked in a studio session. From what was a short, but super productive 2hr session, birthed ‘Nunya’, the second track on the EP. The traditional Yugambeh lyrics “Nunya mulla, nunya bayami” mean “Thanks creator, thanks to those around me”.

The EP titled ‘Jingeri’ was done, all that was left was the artwork and who better to visually represent this body of work than Luther himself. He designed this traditional artwork, which he calls ‘3 Brothers’. In Luthers’ words, “3 Brothers represents me, my 2 brothers, our families and our continuing connection to country and culture”.

I have been a massive fan of the Beats of No Nation family for a long time and when I heard they wanted to release this EP I was delighted. I want to thank Luther for all of his time and contributions to these tracks. I am so happy to have made a new friend and collaborator and am super inspired for what the future holds musically." The Visitors EP is a transcendent tour of Flour’s auditory cosmos and fascinating inner world, essential for all lovers of hard techno’s trancier moments, it finds itself perfectly at home in EXHALE’s cutting edge catalogue.

Kicking off the EP, which he describes as ‘a four-track journey exploring identity and transformation’ is the darkly beguiling ‘Mystery Land’, where pummeling kicks and trancey pads take us into hyperspace as we are drawn into ‘the discovery of an unknown dimension’. On title track ‘Visitors’ we go deeper still as Flour invites us to ‘encounter one’s own alter ego’: driving rhythms are offset with haunting operatic vocals, intense building synths and a broodingly urgent break building tension as a voice warns of ‘system failure’. Powerful peaktime gear. Next up is single ‘The World Beyond’, a transcendent fusion of hard techno and psytrance for the depth of the rave.
