Retropolis is the brain child of producer Sam White hailing from North West England, rooted in breakbeat with a love of piano, this project has grown and evolved into a bass driven monster.

Nominated in the International Breakspoll 2014, Best Breakthrough Producer category and a regular name in the Beatport Breaks Chart, Retropolis is making waves in the breaks community.

Having releases on US label For the Love of Breaks, Propaganda Music, Booty Trax, Warehouse Wax, The Pooty Club Records, Kode5 Recordings, Rave Style’e and others, there is plenty more to come.

The Retropolis dirty breaks style receives support from Sanxion, The Flashback Project, Vinyl Junkie, Kid Panel and KL2 to name a few.

Rated in DJ Mag at 8.5 on the Richter scale for the ‘Retropolis – I Said No EP’ , Funk and Filth blog described him as “Thundering onto the scene” and  “One of the stand out artists & DJ’s of the last 12 months.” Receiving acclaim both in the UK and internationally, with his old school style of rave-breaks, blended with electro and filthy basslines, Retropolis’ DJ sets are cross-genre monsters, filling dancefloors with serious bass faces.

damienj, started his musical journey in the late 1980’s with the first “illegal raves” to hit the small town in the South Lakes town of Ulverston. 
Living in a Buddhist community since the age of 5yrs, he was used to the different styles and sounds of the multicultural environment and enjoyed the changing faces of all the different people he would meet over the years. 
The “Rave Scene” was an explosion of sounds, tastes and people: From the Whirl y gig in London the club that began in 1981 as a collaboration with the Association of Humanistic Psychology to encourage "anyone who enjoys dance as a means of self-expression”. to the brick factory in the South Lakes and then onto the Cave Raves in Coniston, Damien.j experienced it all. 
The “illegal Raves” slowing down damien.j took to the clubs visiting some of the most well known of the time around the North West of England and beyond. The club scene would form the backbone to damien.j and his musical taste and style. Enjoying nights in clubs such as The Carlton, Morcambe, Zone in Blackpool, Shelley’s in Stoke-on-Trent and the Eclipse in Coventry, damien.j partied until the sun came up and beyond. 

Now living in Perth, Australia damien.j has a family and plies his trade whilst watching the sun set on the gorgeous Indian Ocean, with his Roland SE-02 Studio Electronics, Korg Minilogue and Roland Airia TR-8, the old school sounds start to be created again!

 I have a predilection for dirtier more controversial dubstep, i'm drawn to the bass heavy, audacious musical innovators. I'm currently reveling in the abundance of new style hybrids, hats off to you bold unflinching cross-genre mutants! I'm basking in the half remembered trance-like familiarity of Dutch House whilst appreciating the resurgence in popularity of Hard-style; blessed with great ears and an eclectic taste in music, I'm forever tripping over Italian House & Old Skool nostalgia, and whilst completely unsusceptible to phonophillia by proxy, after repeated and  unrestricted exposure to an acute case of severe Discomania I have developed Italo-Disco obsessive disorder...........the tunes tell their own tale.
