Off the back of their first release, a multi-genre compilation featuring artists originating from six different countries, the Pitch Rider team are set to launch their first solo EP from Slick Shoota. The Norwegian is arguably the most respected juke producer to originate from outside of Chicago due to his high octane, larger-than-life approach to 160. His unique take on the genre which incorporates jungle and rave references hasn’t gone unnoticed, with productions being picked up for release by a range of labels including Mad Decent, Apothecary Compositions and Amy Becker’s TRX.

The title track kicks off the EP in hypnotic style, with vocal samples that seem to veer slightly off-beat just to come right back in sync with the barrage of kick drums, toms and snares hits that underscore the track. Shoota’s approach to production on ‘Do Right’ is reminiscent of that used in early grime tunes. The texture of the track constantly changes as elements are quickly dropped, brought back in or pitched up an octave throughout.

B-side ‘Hivemind’ sounds like an early Ridge Racer soundtrack on steroids with its glacial and trance-like lead synth. Slick Shoota throws a light-hearted curveball into the mix by peppering the track with what can only be described as the sound of bubbles popping essentially. The EP is rounded off with ‘Radium,’ a pacey and syncopated affair littered with stuttering claps and multiple key changes to keep ravers guessing. If there’s one thing we can count on when it comes to a Slick Shoota production, it’s that you’re always going to have a hard time predicting what’s coming next.

As a platform, we are always excited to see labels going out of their way to be as innovative and creative as they possibly can in releases they support and put together. This is such an essential step in pushing our scene forward and keeping it from getting stagnant and in our eyes is a trait that labels are praised on not nearly enough. One of the labels we have in mind specifically when saying such things is Articulate, a project that is never afraid of either pushing the boundaries or giving an opportunity to up and comers who are looking for a break.

Their latest serving up is another belter without a shadow of a doubt, as the project unveils their new release alongside Bristol based funky young guns: Retrospect. Under this new alias, the pair have made massive strides, already signing with Articulates in-house artist agency. We have since been in contact with the team at Articulate and are very happy to be unveiling this exclusive premiere of the title track 'Jewels' through the 3000 networks, which you can now stream exclusively through 3000 Blog's SoundCloud ahead of release.

Our Manc friends Dansu Discs return to business with a four track EP from the ever illusive and shady talent that is X-Coast. On remix duty and stamping his print on A1 is Big Mix; another name that seems to be re-appearing in all the right places. 

A combination of unpredictable turns, aggressive acid stabs, and obscure synths, it's fair to say that the scotsman's remix of the New Yorker's 'Bailando' is a heater.

Desert Sound Colony's Holding Hands imprint taps a collection of buzzing underground artists for the 'Slam Jams Vol.1' compilation EP, featuring London-based artist Breaka laying down a jam true to his name with gripping breaks, chopped vocals and fluttering synth riffs. 

Desert Sound Colony describes the vision behind the new compilation EP: "For release numero 7 I have decided to switch up the format and put out a various artists EP. We’ve got a couple label regulars and a couple fresh faces, each bringing a different vibe but with one overarching theme. The tracks have gotta slam... All four tracks are produced and sculpted for the club. They want big sound systems and dark rooms. Close your eyes, hold hands and experience transcendental space flight..."
