The Pnyx is a hill in central Athens. Beginning as early as 507 BC, the Athenians gathered on the Pnyx to host their popular assemblies, thus making the hill one of the most important sites in the creation of democracy. The ecclesia or ekklesia (Greek: ἐκκλησία) was the name of the principal assembly of the democracy of ancient Athens held on the Pnyx.

PNYX. is a radical improv sound performance. 

An open collective founded by Fabio Campagna and Sean Derrick Cooper Marquardt , in Berlin, 2016. A collective ritual which creates a space. A space of freedom and interaction. 

A gathering made by the dialogue of unexpected sounds unveiling the transcendent strength within humanity.

Der Klang der Freiheit.

Das Sound- und Video-Projekt "PNYX." verdankt seinen Namen einem Hügel bei Athen, auf dem im fünften und vierten Jahrhundert vor Christus die attischen Volksversammlungen stattfanden und der einer der bedeutendsten Geburtssorte der Demokratie ist. Ebenso wie die antiken Griechen wollen die Künstler von "PYNX." einen Raum der Freiheit schaffen, um untereinander ebenso wie mit dem Publikum in Kontakt zu treten. Im Zentrum steht dabei der Mensch, der durch seine begrenzte Existenz immer wieder über sich hinausweist, ins Göttliche ebenso wie ins Mitmenschliche.

Gegründet wurde das Projekt vom Amerikaner Sean Derrick Cooper Marquardt und dem Italiener Fabio Campagna, die bei ihren Auftritten von verschiedenen, stets wechselnden Musikern und Medienkünstlern unterstützt werden. Sean Derrick Cooper Marquardt stammt aus Chicago und lebt seit vielen Jahren in Berlin. Nach Anfängen im Punk und im Heavy Metal entwickelte er seine eigene Methode des zufälligen oder unwillkürlichen Gitarrenspiels. Fabio Campagna ist Kunsthistoriker, Kurator, bildender Künstler, Musiker und Komponist. Seine Projekte beschäftigen sich vor allem mit den Lebensweisen und Interaktionen in Großstädten. Seine Installationen und Performances sind dabei ortsspezifisch, d.h. sie thematisieren stets auch den Ort, an dem sie aufgeführt werden.
