In-demand, groove-fuelled producer Opolopo and 24 Carat singer-songwriter Angela Johnson introduce brand new single The Ones You Love on Reel People Music, which precedes their eagerly awaited album Best of Both Worlds due later this year. 

The Ones You Love is a stylish pooling of soulful talents, following the pair’s previous hit Reel People Music collaborations Stay This Way, Good Lover and Sunshine. The chemistry fizzes and uplifts as ever, Johnson’s rich, fully-flavoured vocals riding confidently upon a struttin’ disco mix of funky bass guitar, classic piano and sleek synths. Stockholm-based DJ-producer Opolopo (real name Peter Major) can boast two decades’ worth of productions right across the soulful dancefloor spectrum for labels such as Local Talk, Z Records and Defected. His remix discography includes Gregory Porter, Jungle, Leroy Burgess and Mother’s Favorite Child. NYC native Angela Johnson was a member of acid jazz group Cooly’s Hot Box before enjoying solo success via a string of acclaimed R&B albums including They Don’t Know, It’s Personal and Naturally Me. During the Noughties, Johnson featured on Reel People singles Can’t Stop, In The Sun and You Used To Hold Me So Tight.

The Ones You Love is another slam dunk for two exceptional artists with much more to come. It’s also a continuation of Reel People Music’s incredible discographic run. This collection of underground dance music covers tracks released between 1975 and 1983 from both sides of the Atlantic. The tracks chosen for this compilation introduce some of the pioneering few who expanded the horizons of disco to incorporate elements of dub, funk, electro, jazz and Latin. In some ways many of the artists featured here foresaw the birth of successive musical genres. There is no disputing that they were all well ahead of their time and with the recent trend of similarly inspired house they sound as fresh today as they did then.

The music chosen for this album were the underground classics that made the scene what it was in the heady of days of the Paradise Garage and the Loft in NYC and the Warehouse in Chicago where DJs such as Arthur Baker and Francois Kervorkian could be heard spinning such tracks.

On disc two (CD version only) Masters at Work add their touches to one of their favourite tracks while Harvey and Underdog take on the Disco Dub band and come up with two very different interpretations which will work on today’s dancefloors.
