As I find my way in Ableton, I have been working on sampling and build this track around a few bits of piano and percussion from 'Deep Down', my favorite from the album.

Following a slew of impressive releases on Bass Legion, Section 23, Profound Beats, Kartoons and Encrypted Sound, massively exciting up-and-comer Max Baker returns to Monk Audio, again highlighting his status as one of the most promising producers coming through the Drum & Bass scene. With an impressive release catalogue already under his belt comprised of slick originals, unique remixes and a sharp selection of gully free downloads, the future is endlessly bright for the young don, and we’ll say exactly the same for Monk Audio; a thriving imprint that we’ve only got great things to say about. This is a top matchup overall, and one that sees a return of the partnership that’s brought so much success on their previous releases together such as Baker’s immensely popular ‘Outgoing’ EP (with the OTW premiere racking up over 18,000 plays) and his expertly crafted ‘Dog Chasing The Bee’ free download.

Now, he’s back with a brand new 2-track drop and no surprise - it’s an absolute corker. The A-side, entitled ‘Glitch’ (which we’ve had the pleasure of premiering here for you today) is a digital freak of track, packed full of AI-etched bleeps and bloops, providing a startling foreshadowing of a world that may be just around the corner. Both invoking and connoting robotic mannerisms and rhythmic tendencies, here Baker highlights that he can hit any level on a track, be it wholly unique or dancefloor-primed. It’s modular, it’s spacious, it’s quirky and we love it. 

 ‘Absinthe’ is a tad more rave-ready, but no less unique and individual. In fact, it’s magical that both tracks could hold their own as a sole single release, but can also find enough in common to link perfectly on a 2-tracker; that’s a hallmark of a producer completely in his element, and kudos to Monk Audio for aiding in that journey so far. The B-side incorporates Sofa Sound-style funk and energy, bopping along its nearly 6-minute duration with a skulking, sub-low swagger and a playful hop, skip & jump. Belter.

Once again, it’s a cracking release from Baker and Monk - long may this immense pairing continue. We’ve heard there’s some very, very special stuff on the way soon.
