It is Monday the 3rd of February 2014 and we have DJ Red for the first time on the CLR Podcast. Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Simona Calvani p.k.a. DJ Red has been a resident for the Ultrabeat nights at Rome´s most important dance venue Goa club for the last 13 years. In 2012 she joined the BPitch Control artist roster and released her first record “Eyes Are Blind” on the BPitch Control label. Her mantra “creation is the source of energy” underpins the importance of the relationship between artist and public. Her innovative DJ style is characterized by Techno-Dub influences, dark and deep sounds. 2018’s chilled-out Kiran LP was a first step towards Konduku’s inevitable fate as electronic music producer par excellence. The Dutch performer’s right brain rhythms were perhaps aptly timed, touching a spot made tender by the period of introspection forced upon us by an unprecedented global pandemic. These were spartan experiments in sound that reverberated within the cavernous space isolation prised open but didn’t stay that way for long. With the return to normality came another side to Konduku’s work, productions and real-time sets that focused on a heavier, more techno-leaning sound; though they still took inspiration from bass, sometimes house, and the plangent loops of mid-2000s Italian hypnotica. These beats found a perfect home on Spazio Disponibile, Delsin’s Mantis as well as DJ Nobu’s Bitta label, and even claimed a sublabel all his own on Rotterdam’s Nous'klaer Audio, the music and photography outlet K Series. A highly satisfying alliance of liquid basslines and layered echoes put his name on the rise, and today his relentlessly chugging and nimble beats are very much a known quantity, a unique and welcome proponent for cerebral, subaqueous loops. Bassiani Podcast 223 is top-form Konduku recorded live at the club back in May, three hours of forward-thinking techno that’s thick with ideas and rattling rhythms, far-out frequencies for the temporal lobe that surprise at every turn.

DJ Sodeyama’s murky alias The People in Fog is up next for a very special number. The DJ/producer has been active since the 90s, reshaping his home city, extensively touring the globe, releasing music, founding record labels (Arpa) and toying with different incarnations of his palette under a few different names. The People In Fog is one such project, founded a decade ago as license to lean into his more disco and house inclinations, a means of connecting with a lighter penchant for Chicago-style and Balearic rhythms. It’s a manifestation that’s given the world several first-rate releases like debut album A Ray of Light (2013), Album: 1977 (2021) and this year’s Too Much Knobs and Cables. His whistle-stop promo tour of Japan for that latest release has been whipping up plenty of shifting grooves and phase distortions, and delivering that fresh take on sound to IRL crowds in his native land. For the rest of us, the nine-tracker’s a perfect source for summer anthems: a fuzzy, analog patchwork of synths and low-end bass. Bassiani Podcast 273 takes all of this and turns up the heat, The People In Fog’s deep reverence for underground sounds is here for a two-hour mash up of grimy percussions and sensuous urban sounds. It is with great pleasure that we present to you our 100th podcast. Over the course of the series we like to think we have mixed up big names with the stars of tomorrow; have shined a light on lesser known DJs who deserve the limelight and given pride of place to people with their own distinctive sounds. One such artist is Helena Hauff, the DJ turned producer who cut her teeth at the legendary Golden Pudel in Hamburg. Though she is a DJ first and foremost, her recorded material on labels like Werk Discs and Handmade Birds has never been less than arresting thanks to its dystopian blend of electro and techno moods and grooves.

This mix she has done for us is just the same: it is ninety minutes of elastic electro, popping techno and slithering electronics that are shiny and metallic, crisp and futuristic. It will push and pull you in many different directions but is all tied together by an infectious sense of slick robo-funk. Right up there with electro greats like Drexcyia and I-F, Helena Hauff is a suitably singular artist to helm this landmark podcast.

Luigi’s music has so far been released on the established label Dynamic Reflection, Hypnus Records, where he found a platform that inspired him to develop his style. Melting the tribal and hypnotic elements of techno with the atmospheric and emotional side of ambient music he is making his own path in the world of electronics.

Rhythm Büro is a Kyiv-based electronic music collective, event series, and record label that has carved out a significant space in the global underground scene. Since its inception in 2015, Rhythm Büro has hosted some of the most forward-thinking artists in techno, ambient, and experimental music, including Global Communication, Actress, Donato Dozzy, Surgeon, Oscar Mulero, Regis, Rrose, and many more.

The collective is known for its secret location events, often held in unique and industrial spaces around Kyiv, which have become legendary for their immersive atmospheres and high-caliber lineups. Rhythm Büro has also taken its showcase to major cities like Berlin, Paris, Tbilisi, Rotterdam, Prague and many more, establishing itself as a significant force in the international electronic music community.

One of the collective's most notable achievements is its annual festival, Natura. Held in a secret forest location just outside of Kyiv, Natura quickly became a beloved event for fans of deep, atmospheric techno, house and ambient music. The festival’s last edition, before the war, attracted a remarkable 4,000 attendees, all drawn to the unique experience of dancing in nature. Besides its carefully curated musical lineup, Natura distinguished itself as one of the first music festivals in Ukraine to champion an ecological agenda. The festival implemented a zero-waste policy, ensuring that all generated waste was recycled, with nothing sent to landfills.

The label arm of Rhythm Büro has released several critically acclaimed EPs, featuring both local talent and established names in the scene. Each release reflects the collective's commitment to deep, hypnotic, and atmospheric sounds, further solidifying its reputation as a tastemaker in the global electronic music landscape.

With its dedication to curating cutting-edge music and creating unforgettable experiences, Rhythm Büro continues to push the boundaries of what an electronic music collective can be, both in Ukraine and beyond.
