Noodling about in drop-d and I came up with one of those riffs that you just know you have to do something with.  The music came together really quickly and for once I was really happy with the drum machine track I'd put together (half the battle really).

Just jamming back and forth on Ab and E ("AbE" was the working title) and from memory I came up with much of the music in one shot.

The lyrics came from watching news coverage of the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. Just thinking, here is this guy who is the leader of his country, has been for ages, is either feared or loved by many of his people, and has more power than most and yet doesn't seem satisfied with it. He feels the need to keep trying to take more.

Duncan  Black recorded this song using electric guitars and a drum machine. No bass guitars were harmed during the recording of this music. 

Debunker

As the title suggests, this is an instrumental funk track.  Unlike the few instrumental tracks that I've previously done, this one was always meant to be instrumental, with the idea that each instrument would get it's moment in the sun.

Finishing this song is both kind of a relief and a bit sad, I started it something like 5 or 6 years ago... I haven't been working on it the whole time!  I laid down a scratch track of all the riffs back then and probably recorded drums and bass then.  All of the other parts and the solos have been happening at a very gradual rate (maybe one or two a year, heh) including re-recording the bass when I got a new bass and was really stoked with the sound of it, my old one, the pickups had been failing and the sound was so thick and muddy!

So now it's done... time to start the next one

In a Funky Way - Disc 2

Funkstrumental

I took this photograph during a trip to Rotorua.  The cracked earth popped the non-word 'aridite' into my head.   I saw it as a portmanteau word combining 'arid' and 'erudite' and pronounced as such.  (There is a word in French spelled similarly, but pronounced differently and with an accent above the e).

Just thinking about that word kind of led to this music popping out during a jam on the guitar and the whole thing came together pretty easily enjoyably.
