Altiplano, Volor Flex’s effervescent collab with fellow Russian producer and good friend Encode, is yet another dateless - albeit state-of-the-art - immersion into the polyrhythmic, dense, visceral compositions that this prolific artist is constantly fine-tuning somewhere in the steppe of the Ural Mountains.

There’s a lot of synced up emotional comfort and tension happening on both sides of the release, balanced-out, as ever, by artfully crafted elements of structure and style. Among them, the everpresent UK garage signature, the noise-drenched soundscapes, the sharp snares, the skittering beats, the melancholy vocals (especially on Altiplano, which easily competes with You In Me or Fake Love in unforgettableness), plus those entrancing moments of fervor followed by profound relief that Volor is such a master of.

The main track and subsequently the EP were named after the highest and largest plateau in South America, and that’s how exalted and wide-reaching this music should feel. Both inner-city and otherwordly, both London and Syktyvkar, the 7-track, two-sided EP is going deep to get that right, raw vibe. The 12” comes with a wonderfully exciting digital perk, a sweet and soulful bonus track titled Avia.

Natal Zaks is the 22 year old hypertalented Danish wunderkind behind a multitude of monikers and projects that can each be easily classified as state-of-the-art music. Whether he’s composing and singing for the sweet-sounding techno twosome Averos or he’s busy developing the soft, immersive acoustics of his other dyad, Madelin, Natal is deeply preoccupied with sound design and the emotional impact his cutting-edge musical apparatus will have on any listener.

Yet his Aebeloe handle is the only one that truly does justice to his ample taste-range and personality. A modern prodigy in the very classical sense, Aebeloe transpires raw talent layered upon years of exploration, schooling and constant curiosity.

His “Manon” EP should become an instant classic, given the new, elaborate yet super-relatable techno/house meets celestial electronica sound it showcases. With most DJ’s barely getting their teeth in to 2014 yet, Rotterdam based composer and producer Eelke Kleijn is already back teasing more huge tracks. Set for release on Feb. 24 on Eskimo Recordings are two brand new originals. ‘Lovely Sweet Divine’ is a slice of space disco heaven. This otherworldly tune is drenched in expansive reverb, disco rhythms and infectious arpeggiated basslines.

Typically brooding with an uplifting inflection, 'A Tale Of Two Lovers' is Eelke at the top of his game – only what we have come to expect from recent months. Combining fluid violins, hang drums and his typical bass rumble it’s a track from someone so adept at production they have the confidence and freedom to play around with styles in the 7-minute runtime.

Rich NxT, one of FUSE’s core residents, returns for his fourth EP on the FUSE London label. Set for release in April, the ‘Wasteline EP’ sees him build upon his fine earlier work with another mesmerizing journey through expertly crafted underground sounds. 

Title track ‘Wasteline’ is an impressive opener, which stretches over seven glorious dubbed out minutes. The track is characterised by its infectious groove, which rolls along at a steady pace and is complemented by expertly placed distorted sounds and vocal snippets. ‘Instate’ continues in a similar vein, but this time warm reverb pads shine through darkness of the crisp percussion. With distorted vocal fragments and echoing cowbells added to the equation at just the right moments, the clever arrangement results in a totally engrossing and hypnotic track. ‘Daybreak’ – is another functional dance-floor weapon, with heavy bass, sharp drums and echoes ringing throughout, these sounds all combine to create a deeper-than-deep eyes closed heads down vibe that is a perfect fit for the FUSE dancefloor.

Rounding off the EP is remix of ‘Wasteline’ under their acclaimed Kilimanjaro project. While the dubby essence of the original remains, the duo instantly stamp their mark on the record through raising the BPM with razor sharp percussion and adding sublime deep bass and warm soaring synths which wash over the punchy beat.

On the ‘Wasteline EP’ Rich demonstrates his considerable production prowess and as expected from one of FUSE’s most trusted residents it contains all the elements that one would associate with the much-loved FUSE sound: deep dubby house and techno of the highest order, rich in details and sound. The ‘Wasteline EP’ leaves listeners eagerly anticipating Rich’s next output and hearing the release on the dancefloor.

After a string of successful releases on labels such as Rejected, Leena and Cecille, we are extremely excited to announce the return of Ross Evans to Saved.  Three years on from 2011’s These Sounds, Ross’ latest offering showcases his ability to adapt, and to continue making solid, upfront house music. 

The first of the two-tracker, Let It Go, kicks off proceedings by fusing soulful vocals with an infectious bassline, culminating in a blistering workout for the dance-floor.  This is balanced perfectly by the more peak-time This Is Carcosa over on the B side, which really showcases Ross’ effortless talent.  This Is Carcosa binds eerie vocals with a solid, jacking groove to round off what may be a package of Ross Evan’s best work to date.

Bruno Pronsato’s debut album as Archangel, The Bedroom Slant, released in 2014, saw the producer update the style he has developed over the last decade on labels such as Hello?Repeat, Perlon, DFA and TheSongSays, and in the process, manifesting his love of pop, rock and post-punk in his music for the first time. On this EP, selected tracks from the album are reworked by Dean Blunt, Peter Gordon & Oliver Coates.

The EP opens with “Blue Eyes Blind/This Romance,” an early, unreleased track from 2012. A perfect blend of the percussive dancefloor Bruno Pronsato sound and his darkly melodic and lyrical Archangel aesthetic, the overlap between the projects at this early stage is captured in the recording.

Dean Blunt, using an extracted loop of Pronsato’s percussion as foundation for his euphoric strings, creates a unique 23-minute automated spoken-word rework of “Julia.” (9.5-minutes for the vinyl edit). It details the first narcotic experiences of the narrator (with numerous appearances by Dean Blunt, himself, as a character in the narrative). A 90-second instrumental snippet of this piece was extracted for use as the intro for Dean Blunt’s temporarily available Babyfather download-only album, continuing the enigmatic producer’s hall-of-mirrors style approach that often manifests itself in his own work, as it also did in Hype Williams.

New York Downtown-scene figurehead and Love Of Life Orchestra bandleader, Peter Gordon, having made a guest appearance on The Bedroom Slant on the album track “Steal The Groom,” now strips back the album opener “Half-Man Half-Lisa.” On what is his first ever remix, Gordon draws out the original’s track‘s obscured undertones while enriching Pronsato’s intricate percussive patterns further by adding his own playful rhythms and restless melodies.
Cellist & producer Oliver Coates brings the EP to a close with his reworking of the album’s only instrumental, “L.A. Teen (Live).” Recorded in an apartment in Hong Kong during the protests at the end of 2014, the Jonny Greenwood & Micachu collaborator rearranges the original track’s synthesized melody for cello, adding his own electronics and reconstructing the original track’s percussive elements to fit his vision.

Moscow-born producer Olga Lyalina, aka MOAN is about to release the Holy Heartbeats EP, an ultra-stylish and well-informed collection of house tunes, inspired in no small part by UK garage and bass music. To tease the release she's just shared "Stop Lying" with us. Inspired as much by designers like Alexander Wang and Maison Margiela as she is by the music that went before, "Stop Lying" sounds like the kind of music you dream of making when you're several drinks deep in the club, enamored by the pulsing four-by-four beats that surround you. It's crisp, melodious, warm and entirely devoid of cynicism. It's clear that Lyalina is just as interested in creating lasting art, with her thoroughly on-point lyricism and vocal work, as she is with keeping the dancefloor packed. As with the best art, there's a lot to digest here, from the rich visual aesthetic right through to the crunchy, club-ready beats.
