Australian producer Luke Alessi is back on DJ Tennis’ iconic Life and Death label with his latest record, the ‘After Five’ EP.

Picture a roaring 1920s debauched, excessive and riotous cocktail party with screaming brass moments meets 1970s funk and disco grooves that loop and tumble you into a hypnotic state while Barry White's voice guides you through the whole experience. ‘After Five’ was designed to make you feel sexy, groovy and a little bit wild. 

A sonic journey through moody elegance and late-night allure, the release is complemented by remixes from boundary-pushing producers Pablo Bozzi and Aldonna.

The title track, ‘After Five’, released in November 2024 to an avalanche of praise, proving Luke Alessi’s knack for crafting sophisticated beats that resonate across dancefloors. Named as  Pete Tong’s Essential New Tune on his coveted BBC Radio 1 show as well as over ten placements on Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and heavyweight DJ support from tastemakers like DJ Tennis, Dixon, La Fleur, Laurent Garnier, Jimi Jules, and Demi Riquísimo, it’s clear his track has struck a universal chord.

Pablo Bozzi’s remix followed this up and came out on January 17th, putting his signature Italo flex on the title track turning it into a hedonistic and raucous party anthem. Known for her idiosyncratic sound that mirrors her deep sonic interest for the nineties and early noughties, Aldonna finds her sweet spot between House, Progressive and Trance with her remix of ‘Day Dreams of Beaches’ reflecting exactly this. The full EP—an irresistible meld of two original records and reimaginings—is out now, poised to set the tone for 2025.

Already part of the Life and Death family since ‘Bey Beh’ and ‘Dale Dale’, Luke Alessi’s music sits in its own lane, refusing to be pigeonholed into any conventional genre. A frequent collaborator of Chloe Caillet, Carlita, Rüfus Du Sol, and many more established talents, 2024 has been a huge year for Alessi, with noticeable DJ debuts from Mexico to Asia via Europe and North America.

Danny Howells arrives on Radio Slave’s Rekids for the first time with the three-track ‘Throb’ EP, landing 16th May 2025. Howells, a quietly revered figure in house music since the mid ‘90s, delves deep across the ‘Throb’ EP, which celebrates subtle drum programming, otherworldly keys, and soundscapes throughout. The cossetting warmth of ‘Throb,’ a track which tips the smallest of nods to Danny’s role in the heyday of progressive house, was born out of a late-night studio session—long forgotten about and then rediscovered, re-appraised, as so many great tracks are.

‘Thrunk,’ another supremely heady cut, follows and sees keys slide around the mix, modulated and tweaked just enough to create a constant feeling of movement without losing balance, firmly rooted by a bassline that Howells, contrary to his usual practice, wrote first. Rounding things out on ‘Throb’ is ‘Threads,’ a track born out of a Fred P listening session and one that enlists London’s Elliot Herrington on keys. It’s an epic ode to classic Deep House, delivered in 2025 widescreen technicolour.

Danny Howells is a darling of British dance music. Emerging in the late 1990s with the likes of the era-defining Jackpot Records, his journey in dance music has always been about music, which has seen him eschew frantic touring and production schedules in favour of doing what he loves. Famous, for those in the know, as Cassy’s favourite DJ, Howell’s deft touch and subtlety as a DJ and Producer are evident in spades on ‘Throb.’

Premiere: Jimpster, Ash Lauryn - Feel Me (House Mix) [Freerange Records]

When a deservedly hyped label like No.19 Music states that its biggest release is about to drop then a certain amount of attention is due and that’s exactly what the label’s 19th release, Tanner Ross’ ‘bSide EP’, deserves.

Despite having clocked up an impeccable discography that takes in collaborations with Soul Clap, Claude Vonstroke as well as output for Freerange, Mothership, Culprit and K7!  this is Ross’ first solo release under his given name and is causing a enormous buzz via consistent plays from Art Department, Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, Crosstown Rebels main-man Damian Lazarus and more. 

Adding to the two stunning originals, ‘bSide’ and ‘For You ft. Flo Night’, and pushing things into unmissable territory is a brilliant remix of the latter from Crosstown Rebels / Wolf & Lamb family member, Deniz Kurtel.

‘bSide’ itself is a mid-tempo, lazy groove which gently opens out with warm delayed vocals and creeping drums - hypnotic and subtle, it’s one hell of an intro but the drop into the fat, sumptuous bass hook is pure joy. Steadily joined by soaring, high-end keyboard licks that balance the track beautifully, there’s a sudden realisation the title of ‘bSide’ is a in-joke that’s being shared.

‘For You ft. Flo Night’ continues proceedings with a sexy, blissed out pace. Thudding, raw  and mechanical disco drums underpin yet another rich, dominant Moog bass that oozes P, G and just about every other funk there is. Floating soundscapes, gloriously sliding top lines and Flo Night’s effected vox ebb and flow like liquid while a beat-perfect arrangement allows every element to truly sing which makes for a timeless slice of music. 

Rounding things off is the prodigious talent that is Deniz Kurtel with her version of ‘For You ft. Flo Night’. Building from skittering percussive hits, dubbed-out vocals and spacious ambience into an incredibly catchy bassline, it’s a remix that unravels and combines melodies so impressively it begs repeated listens. 

With a full length for Wolf & Lamb in progress plus collaborations with Deniz Kurtel  and Soul Clap on the way, this is an essential piece of listening and one that celebrates a contemporary star….

Having already amazed us all with his first EP on Sneaky last year, the man from Guatemala (now based in San Francisco) continues to flourish and defining himself as a prodigious producer with his combination of sounds, styles and influences on an EP of high quality deep house. There’s much to admire here, from the low-slung bass lines and tight grooves to some of the deepest atmospheric synth keys and vocal samples, always finding the right nu-school/old-school balance, making every track really pleasant to listen to, as well as a dance floor stomper.
