YUNG DUMB Records and Model Future present Wade Galaxy. A collaboration between Toronto-based AZARI, Butr, and vocalist Jeremy Glenn. The trifecta comes forward with an EP that will bring you through a modular soundscape of love, lust, and distrust inside the hypercube. The A-Side is a hazy fusion of R&B and slowed electro, accompanied by Jeremy Glenn's ethereal vocals. The B-Side provides a room shaking cerebral 2-step remix of 'Phaze' by James Bangura, and fade off with a higher octane version of 'Hypercube' dubbed 'Surrogate Mix', as we exit directly into the future.

For entry number 12 in the PPRZ Podcast series, we have a mix from Calgary's @mother-mary-yyc.

Mother Mary (she/they) is Alex Naylor, a second-generation settler living in Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 territory (currently-named Calgary, Alberta). She mixes elements of UK bass, breaks, emotionally-charged techno, and dark 2-step, always with one eye on the dance floor.

When not in the rave, you can find her co-hosting The Lighthouse on CJSW 90.9FM or planning immersive audiovisual dance experiences with the Radiate crew. In the daytime hours she leads a small but mighty clinic providing mental health and addiction services to folks in Calgary.

Mix description:
I recorded this on @openendmusic's XDJ all-in-one unit. It's a variety of tracks I have enjoyed on dancefloors and in the radio booth lately, plus some unreleased bits from friends near and far. Big thanks to Reece for the mastering, inspiration and friendship, and Ty Ty and Finn for being tastemakers in my music life.

PPRZ Podcast 12 - Mother Mary

After heavy-duty releases on self-administered imprints Low End Activism and Sneaker Social Club, as well as London’s beloved graffiti-laden mutant-bass stronghold Seagrave (RIP), the almighty Low End Activist makes a welcome debut with the ESP Institute. No stranger to mining distant regions the hardcore continuum and the residue of soundsystem culture at large, his relentless traversing and assembling of U.K.-specific rhythms demonstrates there is no end in sight when it comes to evolving the region’s musical gene pool. The 5-track 'Gossip Is The Devil’s Radio' strings together a smear of dystopian instrumentation—ghostly pads wrapped in melancholy, percussion that marries bleep with low resolution shrapnel, and vocal fragments that resemble a control tower’s two-way radio on the fritz—all imperfectly focused through a damaged lens of dancehall. We’re drawn to a dull moan that pervades throughout the record, reminiscent of the nihilistic moments in Abigail Meade’s score to 'Full Metal Jacket' where the sonics resemble a slow churn of molten steel occasionally punctuated and pierced by crystalline shards. The depth between the bone dry immediate foreground and distant wet background creates an exquisite sense of longing which isn’t inherently dark or menacing, but seductively bleak. As voyeurs, we may certainly appreciate the aesthetic LEA portrays, but we can’t fully comprehend the sense of escapism rooted within this music without having come of age in the damp and restless confines of England on the cusp of Thatcher’s abuse. Its a reminder that the light at the end of a tunnel, while it may be dim and grey, is still a light after-all, and the only way out is through.

Belgian beat collective Up High Collective announces their new album 'Koinonia.' Their second full-length comes five years after their debut album in 2018. For 'Koinonia' they have invited Belgian iconic drummer Lander Gyselinck (STUFF.) and several other guest musicians. 'Arushi' is a 7 minute long cinematic trip passed lush synth fields (Boris Van Overschee), playfully climbing stairs of arpeggiators and concluding with a bass driven finale with thumping grooves and cluttering drums. The record is set for release on Wednesday October 11 on vinyl, Bandcamp and via all digital platforms.
