Auteur d’un premier EP solo sur l’écurie de Flore POLAAR et auteur du très remarqué ‘Tell Me’ sur Vernacular Records, il est également versé dans l’art du footwork comme en témoignent ses productions sorties sur Le French Work.

Ce ‘Cloverleaf EP’ concentre l’essence de ce qu’il fait de mieux : du 2-step profond et émotionnel de ‘B With U’ aux breakbeats acérés de ‘Timeslip’, la production est méticuleuse, tantôt sombre et tantôt empreinte de nostalgie, entre hommage aux musiques et sonorités caribéennes et sound design futuriste. Pour compléter l’EP, Stacktrace signe un remix dub mental et oppressant du morceau titre de la sortie.

For the second release of the year, we’re delighted to welcome Paris-based Jumboclat, member of SeekSickSound and Exploration Music (RIP).

Author of a first solo release on Flore’s POLAAR imprint and producing the acclaimed ‘Tell Me’ released on Vernacular Records, he is also well versed in footwork, as demonstrated by his tunes on Le French Work.

His ‘Cloverleaf EP’ is a concentrate of everything he does best : from the emotional an deep 2-step ‘B With U’ to the razor sharp breakbeats of ‘Timeslip’, the prouction is meticulous, deep and melancholic, an ode to the carribean sounds and cultures blended with futuristic sound design. To round off the EP, Stacktrace delivers a psychedelic and oppressive dub remix of the title track.

Belgian musician and visual artist Youniss releases the second single 'Walad' from his forthcoming album 'White Space'. The record deals with his own personal panic attack instilled by the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020. “I wrote this album in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. Being black, having an Arabic name. The world felt different for me afterwards, I started seeing and experiencing things through a different lens.”

As an exploration of identity and self expression, Antwerp based Youniss moves his way through the awkward, intrusive feelings that accompany performing as a black man with an Arabic name through the gaze of the western world. 

The music and graphic concept of ‘White Space’ is fueled by the pain caused by being misperceived and the feeling of being lost in the search to fit in. Where his previous self-titled debut album captured the more romantic aspects of his identity by celebrating his heritage, his second full length now problematizes the a priori fixed positioning within the dominant white system and the ritual dances one must perform as an artist and human being of colour.

'White Space' releases on March 8th via Ghent's VIERNULVIER Records.

At the end of 2021, we welcomed Chicago-based Norfik onto our label with an attentive track [SERA010] that had us seeking more. Since then, the local beatmaker has extended himself to various pillars of the electronic music complex. He surely has learned to keep busy, from scoring short films and playing at local events, to showcasing his originals on household American labels such as TAR, Jollies Records, Juke Bounce Werk, and more.

Norfik tends to wear his influences on his sleeve with a high output of breakbeat-inspired tracks that celebrate his heavyweight predecessors. He is also unafraid to crank up the speed and tap into the world of jungle, drum & bass, and even breakcore. What makes his work stand out is his interest in ambient music, an external force that pushes him into a more emotive realm. The byproduct of his music genes is an authentic sound that may feel familiar to the avid dancefloor enthusiast, but genuine in its nature of being meaningful art from a real artist.

These attributes hold true to “Heartbreak EP,” a journey through lush ambiance met with rattling drum breaks. Norfik set out to make a collection of tracks that feel straightforward and transparent; what you hear is what you get. Unintended to be cohesive, the project feels woven together by raw emotion and shares the same theme throughout. With an influx of listeners crowding around the atmospheric jungle subculture, Norfik steers clear from the rest by delivering a recognizable yet unique body of work.

“Heartbreak EP” is composed of many different ideas that come together in a listenable package. The EP starts with “Greed,” a rhythmic introduction that captures listeners with rolling percussion. Tracks like “Denial” and “Into Action” do a wonderful job in displaying the contrast between thumping drums and atmospheric pads in the stereo space. The title track serves as the peak of the project, putting an emphasis on a tense buildup and rush of energy in its chorus. “Approach” concludes the EP with a track that touches on breakcore-fused antics, while staying persistent with the established ambiance.

One of the best qualities of “Heartbreak EP” is its ability to write its own story while still allowing space for interpretation. Norfik challenges his listeners to reflect on their own selves and remember what keeps them moving. Drenched in nostalgia yet holding itself to a high standard in modern production, the result is some of his best and most impactful work thus far.

This sublabel serves as a primary source of dancefloor weaponry for DJs and enthusiasts aiming to unveil the latest rhythms heard from around the electronic music sphere.
