Swiss sound artist, DJ and producer Noria Lilt takes care of the 133th instalment of the Rhythmic Culture podcast. Heavily influenced by dance music and rave culture, Noria puts together a bursting mix of the most heterogeneous electronic inspirations in her mixes. From clubs to art centers and other live scenes, her practice oscillates between DJing, live, composition and production, audiovisual installations, and multichannel pieces. Her production and composition process tends towards acousmatic and experimental music, with a delicate and unique sound design. Over the course of 65 minutes, Noria takes us on a fast-paced ride this week with atmospheric sounds, stripped-back drum & bass rhythms and warm sub basses.

Pest 002: Swim Ice

In a new round of Mia Koden's curation for the Rhythmic Culture podcast, 1985, DEEP MEDi MUSIK and SYSTEM MUSIC affiliate Samba steps up in the series.

Mia Koden: "Samba is one of the most consistently fire producers I've followed over the years. He's chiefly known for his dubstep tracks but truth is he's actually a sonic chameleon, carving out dark but vibrant bangers with stand out melodies and sound choice regardless of what genre he touches. His DJ sets definitely reflect this: Saw a recent set over the summer for DEEP MEDi (a label he's dropped some anthems on) and it was packed with great selection and interesting moments."

In the run-up to his next release 'Arteria' on Maloca, Brussels-based artist Hypna joins us on the Rhythmic Culture mix series this week. Last year, he launched the artist collective and label Plasma Sources, which he intends to use to bridge the gap between the club and immersive listening experiences. The mix is a collection of all sorts of futurist beats, intriguing percussions, and of course a peak into his new release.

In a brand new Rhythmic Culture podcast, guest curator ZULI shines a light on Cairo-raised/Berlin-based artist Assyouti.

ZULI: "Assyouti was an obvious choice for me; his knowledge of music spans an extremely wide range of genres and I've seen him go b2b with absolutely anyone in any context and deliver every single time; he's a proper DJ. The guy lives and breathes music, so the list of accolades already under his belt at only 24 years of age (as both a DJ and producer) come as no surprise to me or anyone who knows him. Definitely one of the most promising young names to come out of Cairo."

For ZULI's second artist as guest curator for the Rhythmic Culture podcast he picks the Cairo-based artist Ashrar.

ZULI: "Ashrar is another obvious choice because, to him, music is sacred; it shouldn't be informed by any non-creative forces. He reflects these values clearly through his work as a curator, DJ and producer, and has therefor created his own sort of palette of sounds, artists and labels within which he operates. It's what sets him apart as a DJ, which is why I picked him for this series."

Parisian artist December steps up in this week's instalment of the Rhythmic Culture mix series. December’s music is a nightly one. Always on the edge between party and spleen, it questions the sensitivity taboo in techno, alternating dry rhythmic punishments and synthesizers coloured with a worried melancholy.

In the course of 80 minutes, December shifts back and forth between mesmerising scapes and rhythms–from slow to fast and back–brought with confidence and class.

Deep and rich bass, heavy synth, danceable songs. This album is written produced and performed by Shelly Truman. The songs tell a story of a tragic break up, incarceration, aliens, drones, secrets, domestic violence, suffering, surveillance, deceit, and the tragedy and fall of what once was Shelly and Devlin. It's really over, so now it's just me, Shelly. It hurts, but the narrative story will come soon. For now, its just sitting with the hard heavy emotions.
