To celebrate his residency, we're delighted to unveil his exclusive mix, specially curated for our podcast series.

Based in Amsterdam, @pariah_uk (Arthur Cayzer) is a distinguished British music producer and DJ. He co-founded the Voam record label alongside Blawan (Jamie Roberts), and the two have collaborated extensively for more than a decade, performing and releasing music together as Karenn and Persher. His output reflects a patient pursuit of physical and emotional impact, liberated from genre limitations.

Introduce yourself? Pronouns? Where do you currently reside? 

My name is Lucas, pronouns he/him, i'm 31. I was born and raised in Lyon, I'm currently living in Rennes where I work as an organic vegetable farmer for an association. The farm  is also a venue where we host gigs, parties and more.

Using the Sampler's built in oscillator to FM anything, super powerful!

Listen to the moment at 1:11 mark in your PI mix… describe how it makes you feel?

It is a moment of growing tension, it makes me feel like I want to be in a club to hear a moment like this. I like when there’s unpredictability in a build up and with the layering of those 2 tracks at that time mark, you can’t really know when the pressure’s gonna be released.

Best gig of your life so far?

It would be both a gig I played and a gig I attended and it was the final afterparty of Positive Education Festival 2018. The most euphoric vibes I've seen on a dancefloor, epic set by the festival co-founders & friends Charles & Antoine as Les Fils de Jacob. 

Favorite mix in recent memory?

Ani/live number 3, livwutang at Nowadays.
Incredible blends of all kind of club music genres.
Exactly what I feel like I want to do these days, thus being far from the result. This mix is really inspiring and really resonated with me.

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

I’d like to see more clubs & venues in France like Macadam in Nantes : no pictures/video, nice sound system, inclusive policy and constant communication on how to behave in a club & a lot of smoke inside. I think we lack this kind of venue in the country. The educational part is very important because I tend to find a lot of people being disrespectful towards other people, venue staff and artists.

This is the recording of my closing set at FOLD, London, on April 14th, 2023. I'd put together the lineup for Transmissions and DJed after Shackleton, CCL and mi-el, and had a really special time playing in a zone I’ve been hugely enjoying this year – fast, headsy, frenetic, tunnelling, kind of psychedelic (but not like explicitly psy), twisting and turning in different directions, all over the place genre-wise but tightly bound in a specific mood and propulsive energy.

Decided to re-record a few transitions on this one and tidy it up a little – it’s more editing than I’d usually do but I wanted to release the best mix I could which would exemplify where my head's been at this year. :)

909 is a special number for us at RA—the name of one of the most hallowed drum machines in all of music, and one of the foundations of techno music—and we're more than happy to offer it up to a DJ who has been a long-time favourite of our team: Glasgow's Bake. In fact, we commissioned this mix roughly ten years ago, but you can't rush perfection. 

When Bake emerged as one of the heads heads behind the label All Caps—a relatively short-lived but influential imprint that released massive tracks like Flørist's "Marine Drive" and Kowton's "TFB"—he also quickly became one of the most impressive DJs in the post-dubstep access, appearing frequently at Hessle Audio events and sharpening his skills behind the decks at the country's best parties. Now he runs his own, Spirit, at Sub Club.

He has a wide-ranging style that touches on all kinds of leftfield techno and broken drum patterns. His nearly two-hour RA Podcast finds him at the end of a sort-of comeback year, and it touches on tracks from Shackleton, Laksa, Batu, Karima F and Levon Vincent, to give you an idea. It's the kind of mix that oozes expertise and practice without feeling showy—the signs of a truly great DJ. If you don't know Bake, then now you do.

This week REEF resident ESPOSITO steps up in our Rhythmic Culture podcast, delivering an excellent warm-up for their event at Berghain this weekend. Not only is he the production manager and mastering engineer of Darwin's SPE:C label, he also released his record 'Framing Void' on that same label in 2022. His style crosses a range of sounds from his infamous atmospheric, tension building, ambient warm-ups to subwoofer wrecking bass and techno sets on the main floor. 

Over the course of 60-minutes we get treated with a fresh sound for anyone wanting to dip into the dub and bass side of the universe, as he slowly weaves his way from half tempo heavyweight sounds into thrilling drum 'n bass. Don't forget to catch him at the REEF party this Friday.

3024: Jasmín, can you describe your mix in a single sentence ?

Playing in the middle of a very fun night made me pick my boldest tracks in the playlist I had prepared, including a bunch of UK classics. 

3024: What DJ inspires you at the moment / has inspired you throughout the years and why?

So many of them, but Batu is always a favourite of mine. He plays eclectic, but it always comes together as a whole. I saw him close De School in December on a Timedance night I had opened, and I just had to stay until the end (somewhat past 8:00), because I was really dancing, but he also kept me so curious about what he was going to play next. It’s a true skill to be able to surprise people without it feeling too random, and keep up a groove for the whole set at the same time. 

3024: What are you working on / what have you got forthcoming?

Right now I’m just trying to make a lot of different tracks to eventually have a good amount of music to choose from for a full EP. Not sure yet what’s going to come out of that. So nothing forthcoming yet. Between DJing, some freelance work, and life (lol), it’s not always easy to find a full day where I can sit down and completely focus on making music. I’m hoping 2024 is the year of the great workflow for me!
