Wake_My_Monsters

Speedtrap’s sophomore album, Straight Shooter, will hit the shops September 11th via Svart Records, and the new single, also titled Straight Shooter, will be made available on vinyl on June 12th, also via Svart Records. The single will also be available on the band’s High Speeding Through Europe 2015 tour, which begins on May 30th from Sweden’s Muskelrock and continues at breakneck speeds through 15 other European cities.

Speedtrap's debut album, Powerdose, took many by surprise and left many established acts eating dust on several end-of-the-year lists in 2013. Metal Hammer called it "metal fed on a diet of Motorhead and alcohol, Exciter and suspect powders – high octane and hellbent for leather” while InvisibleOranges.com considered it a “fist-raising triumph.” Since then, Speedtrap have performed across the European continent and also gone through some lineup changes: Jaakko Hietakangas (ex-Ranger) has joined the ranks as second guitarist, and Antti Salminen has taken up bass duties while earlier bassist Markus Hietamies has switched to the drum-set.

Even though Speedtrap still are a loud, obnoxious bunch of catchy riff-mongers with no regard for speed limits, Straight Shooter also showcases the band’s ability to push the envelope and, with their new dual-guitar setup, write memorable songs that twist and turn like a drag racer on LSD.

"Intangible Fate" is another one of those instrumentals that's been swirling around in my head for years, waiting for AI to help me bring it to life. The artwork captures exactly what I was hearing - this cosmic spiral of energy with broken chains floating through space, like destiny itself is being shattered and reformed.

At 140 BPM in C# minor, this track has this driving, relentless energy that never lets up, but it's not frantic - it's purposeful. That tempo gives it this sense of inevitability moving forward, like fate itself has a heartbeat. And C# minor? That's one of the darkest, heaviest keys you can work in. It automatically gives everything this ominous, cosmic weight that perfectly matches the theme.

This track explores that feeling when you realize your fate isn't set in stone, that even the most inevitable-seeming forces can be broken free from. The swirling vortex represents all those unseen currents that seem to control our lives, but those broken chains show that sometimes you can break loose from what feels like cosmic inevitability.

Musically, this one has a more progressive feel than my pure heavy tracks like "Nuclear" or "Silent Rage." The C# minor tonality gives it this deep, space-like darkness, while that 140 BPM keeps everything moving with purpose. There's complexity in the composition that mirrors the cosmic theme - sections that spiral and build like the artwork's vortex, then moments where everything breaks apart before reforming into something new.

The guitar work weaves through multiple themes, representing different aspects of fate and choice colliding with each other. Where some of my instrumentals are about raw power, "Intangible Fate" is about transformation - that moment when you realize you have more control over your destiny than you thought.
