It’s been a hot moment, so we can’t wait to finally announce the next EP on our Awkwardly label, “a hack is a foul“ by @dadan11.

Safe to say he’s been on our radar for a while, so we’re mighty excited to welcome the Wrocław-based producer on AWK005. After a strong debut release on his co-owned SPLOT imprint, an equally solid LP on Regime Brigade as well as contributions to various compilations, dadan is back with his signature moody, bass-bin shaking sound.

Hitting the sweet spot somewhere between dubstep, grime, breaks and ambient techno, these 4 tracks provide a somber yet seductive quality that invite the listener to get lost in a hazy amalgamation of stylistic elements. Rest assured, this combination of low end and rhythm heavy explorations contains the right formula to cause some damage on the dance floor.

PREMIERE: dadan karambolo - salamandra [Awkwardly Social]

All Centre kick off the new year with a two tracker from label mainstay Holloway. Following a busy 2023 for the London-based artist, holding down a residency on Rinse FM, tearing up parties around the world and launching his own label Waylo, Holloway starts the year as he means to go on with two incendiary club tracks.

Beans opens in atmospheric fashion with lush pads and dubbed-out sirens held together by enthrallingly syncopated percussion. The structure then strips down to allow a wistful, jazz-inflected theme to come to the fore, deftly complimented by a bouncing, descending bassline and a deep kick pattern. Lightly swung drums give an edge of UKG stylings to this deep, introspective cut.

On the flip Holloway ramps up the tempo with Trinco. Soulful chords fuse the sound of 90s DnB into precise, stepping percussion. The track launches into another dimension at the drop, driven by techy drums, growling basslines and warped vocal samples. The track breathes with the reintroduction of the atmospheric pads, before the bassweight emerges again with renewed force.

Session #49 - Aleska taking us down the tracks with an acid techno, breakbeat, and progressive mix on a train in Berlin.

Based in Brooklyn, NY, Aleska is an enigmatic DJ whose dark, underground sound redefines the dancefloor with dynamic sets that blend techno, progressive, deep, breaks, acid, and hard groove into immersive, hypnotic journeys. She has performed at esoteric New York venues like Bossa Nova Civic Club, Elsewhere, Silo, Mood Ring, and Sultan Room, and hosts pioneering radio shows—such as “Frequencies” at Hi-Note in the East Village and a dedicated program for Support Women DJs on Newtown Radio—that nurture emerging talent. A committed leftist and grassroots activist, Aleska channels her progressive politics into community advocacy through fundraising events and monthly Open Decks sessions, and she further expresses her passion for innovative soundscapes by performing B2B with her friend Sam Valle as part of the electro-pop and hard dance duo, Jersey Girls.

Following the release of his excellent debut on Barcelona’s Lapsus Records, Wordcolour lands on Houndstooth with an astounding EP of next generation club music. The London-based producer invites us into his musical world as we journey through three highly detailed soundscapes, both emotionally resonant and functional for the floor.

With a background in jazz, pop and contemporary classical, Wordcolour has also previously produced music for TV and theatre. On his sophomore solo release, he demonstrates his diverse musical knowledge with dynamic and engaging compositions that indicate many years of music making. While making nods to the best of contemporary UK experimentation, these cinematic tracks deftly switch between tempos all the while retaining Wordcolour’s own aesthetic signature.
