Think of Brazil and immediately think: bustling culture and beautiful scenery. But beneath this, now we think: Victor C. A child of São Paulo, yet an adult student of London, Victor has played a key part of the capital’s musical scene since 2016 - initially DJing across venues like D-Edge, Egg and Corsica Studios, then co-founding his own party Fragments, which impressively saw Toto Chiavetta, Innellea, Marvin & Guy and Kris Davis play for the first few offerings. Yet, Victor’s involvement in London’s scene steps further: running Acrylic on Canvas with Joone, this label is an outlet to support and showcase artists both have fallen in love with along the way. Artists including Tal Fussman, Jepe and soon Kris Davis, Djolee and Colossio.

Swing our attention to his releases, and Victor C. is most notably behind ‘The Affair’ EP with Joone and 1403, which included a long-running and much-anticipated remix from Marcus Worgull. Both the original and remix in question hit the Beatport top 12th and 15th chart position respectively - not a bad career-starting milestone in the slightest. With his deep-rooted love of The Cure, Phil Collins and Dinosaur Jr. when younger, it’s easy to see where Victor’s musical influence stems from - influence which plays out in his own groove-ridden and infectious melodies. This is sound and quality which has also made him a regular ally on Secret Fusion, as well as earning his productions support from those including Worgull, Echonomist, Toto Chiavetta, Santiago Garcia - and even Tiësto.

Progressive mastermind MULYA had a serious basis for compositions already as a child. With a father who’s an opera conductor your destiny’s written. Piano and solfeggio lessons formed our man’s life till his early adulthood. Blew by the wind of progressive house movement MULYA dig deep into harmonies and melodies around the late 2000’s. Keeping the flow of rolling synth lines and complex productions he stepped out with his first EP ”Marvin” at the perfect moment on MoBlack Records. The tune was played by a wide range of A list artists from different genres and created a huge wave through the summer of 2017. The promising start followed by a brilliant three-tracker at Super Flu’s Monaberry, which still sounds like a message from future galaxies at the end of 2018. Remixes for Animal Trainer, Sabb, EP at Bog’s Atlant and another EP at Lehar’s own Multinotes shows clearly that “Marvin” was more than just a lightning in the summer storm. So don’t expect less than heavy drums, accurate production and deep vibes from the man behind the name MULYA.

3 QUESTIONS to MURAT UNCUOGLU:

Q: Let's get into the mood for your mix. Why did you select these tracks and what do they still mean to you?

A: The track selections generally consist of the tracks that impressed me the most, from the times started DJing or even before. Songs that I have listened thousands of times in clubs, at home, in the car, on the plane. It starts from the 1980s and there is also from 2022. 

Q: After more than 2 years of culture shutdown we see light at the of the tunnel. How do you reflect this time?

A: At the beginning of the shutdown it was pleasant to spend more time on music and other things. But then, when the cases got serious and I had sick friends around me who had Corona and had a heavy heart, I got a little upset. I have not lost any family members or friends and luckily I did not caught virus myself. But even for those who are not sick, life has been very difficult. Finally yes I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully we dont have to worry about new viruses in the future. 

Q: Which projects are you currently working on and what's coming up this year?

A: It is very exciting to finally return to the old days without a mask, without capacity limits and time constraints. New exciting days have begun
With the reopening of clubs and the start of festivals, a very busy year awaits me. I just finished a few remixes and some new tracks I prepared for my next EP will be released this year. On the other hand, I have been also busy with my label ISOLATE, as we have demos to check, label nights plus events that we have been organising.

- Some basic information about you. Where were you born and raised?

I was born in Annecy, a small French town in the Alpes. After a long period of time, travelling and working around the world and Europe, I am now back to my roots and enjoying the mountains and the lake.

- Describe your music journey with a few statements. How everything started and how you ended up to electronic music. Which factors shaped your music taste?

I started playing music when I was 12 years old with drums. I used to play in bands and I rapidly fell in love with Post-Rock and Math-Rock music. In between, I started to record my band and others and became a sound technician. It gives me the chance to mix acoustic and electronic music and it is still my way of producing, starting organically and adding some electronics in it.

- What can we expect from your mix?

My mix includes some old and new tracks I like, with a bit of a Post-Rock touch and of course some new unreleased tracks from me.

1. Funniest experience at Aether club:

-Last year we had Marcus Worgull at Sobekin series and the lights were not working. I didn't know him - lookin a serious guy - and was worried how this gonna turn out. He arrived and said; no probs, shut everything down and I play in total darkness. Mastervibes.

 2. Who are you? What do you do?

-Hello, I'm Sobek. I make your face melting down when the e starts to hit hard.

 3. Your podcast in one word?

-Essential. 

4. Define the job of a dj:

-Connect and build the energy flow.

5. Funniest compliment you ever got:

-At AETHER I got cash as a tip several times in the morning. Funny or not, each time I had to take it at the end.

6. Whats your biggest inspiration?

-New music and new adventures.

7. How do you pick track names?

Really good question. Sometimes I reflect on the track closely, other times want to express something else through that part. Nowadays I'm checking the top 10 charts and try to give similar names. Maybe is a maybe,

8. 3 worlds to describe yourself:

-more German than a German (srry was 5)

9. Favorite BPM:

100-125

10. 3 most important skills of a producer?

-Willingness to learn and change. Ability to let it go.

11. Best advice for newcomers:

-Pay yourself in. Its much more easier.

12. What would you change in the industry?

-I wouldn't change anything. That's how it is, the rest is complaint kulture.

13. B2B of your dream?

-The basis for a good b2b is about chemistry and the ability to raise the vibe higher and higher. I'm quite picky on that topic and actually not dreaming about others. 

14. If you would be a sound which would it be:

-The sound of silencio.

15. One secret tip for djs:

-Look up to the crowd sometimes. It's worth the effort.
