In less than 10 years, recording artist Marly Mar has elevated the independent music community in South Carolina by leaps and bounds. Starting his career in the business in 1998, when there was less then a handful of artist representing his home state, Mar has released 12 projects to date. Included are a compilation which showcased the best Hip-Hop artists his hometown of Charleston has to offer; and an independent film and accompanying soundtrack. Most new artists with a career as accomplished as Marly Mar's would attribute their success, albeit reluctantly, to a local “hero” of sorts – typically the first artist from their neighborhood or region to “do it big.” But in Charleston, Marl is that artist.
