I met Ray Prock Jr. years ago at a Twitter conference in Seattle. He's a dairy farmer and an influential presence in the agriculture world in terms of leading discussions about the industry and the role of social media and tech's impact on it. I like Ray a lot because while we come from different backgrounds that would be considered "opposing" to some, Ray and I both care more about what we have in common with each other than the popular approach of reducing cognitive dissonance in order to serve a specific side or status quo. Critical thinking is a lost art and we want to help bring it back however we can. If we all spent more time learning about those that are different than ourselves, seeking out common ground as much as today's internet seeks out reasons to argue, the world would be a much better place. As a Gen-X'er myself I've always felt like my generation has a unique set of challenges, growing up as sort of a latch key kid like many other GenXers. We really are the only generation that knows what life was like before the internet and social media, while also being the first to navigate adulthood and parenthood during the internet/social media era's infusion into every day culture. It is complicated to say the least!

I met Ginger Johnson on LinkedIn earlier this year. I was in the depths of a depressing job search, several months into the COVID-19 onslaught so in an effort to differentiate myself I leveraged my video skills and interviewed myself (well me and a mannequin). Ginger had some how seen the video pop up in her feed, got a kick out of it, and reached out just for the sake of connecting. This is her essence and what draws people to her. 

Since we've connected we've gone back and forth chatting about career stuff, I've written some music for her to use in her content, and just in general just remaining in each other's spheres even though we've never met face to face (Zoom doesn't count!). In this episode we finally get a chance to have a longer conversation about life, career, and the undeniable importance of a real human connection, one driven by purpose, super-powered by a service mindset.
