My fascination with recording the sound of wind chimes began in March 2014. I was ambling through an old Episcopal cemetery in St. Francisville, Louisiana weaving between pockmarked tombstones dating back to the Civil War. Spanish moss-covered limbs from sprawling live oaks form a protective blanket over the graves. I heard the faint high-pitched sound of a wind chime whispering in the distance. The closer I got, the more it sang out to me. It was a little silver lichen-covered chime, dangling from a rusty hanger, clinking over the tiny grave of 2-year-old Marshall Wayne Brewer. Engraved on his tombstone are the words 'Our little angel.' I sat there transfixed by the sound for probably a half-hour. I just had to record it.

Recorded from the window in my tiny studio in my house - on 3/20/2020 8AM - is pretty quiet, birds of course, construction machinery from at building site nearby, my neighbors going about their business and towards the end of the recording - a jogger with his dog on the unpaved road outside my garden... enjoy

Recorded in my garden on Saturday 3/21/2020 11AM the weather is cold and clear, with a little wind from the Northeast -  if you look closely you can see my microphones on the lawn. The track begins and ends with my footsteps going and coming - I left it in just because.... 
It was pretty quiet, there's a horse farm close too my house and you can hear the sound from his Bobcat excavator, there's birds of course, the wind rustling the dead leaves on the hedge, my neighbors going about their business and towards the end of the recording you can actually hear a fly close to the mics... 
I recorded with 2 Lewitt LCT 540´s in NOS and Sound Devices MixPre3 II 32 Bit float.

Capturing the new sound of Times Square during the coronavirus pandemic.

46th St and Broadway, right next to the George M. Cohan statue

Aside from law enforcement, who were stationed every block or so from about 50th street down to 42nd street, and a few foot patrols, Times Square was empty for the most part.
A few homeless people wandered around, and a few people, curious like me, were roaming around as well.
At most, I counted around 10 people in Times Square at one point.

Every day during my Shelter-in-place order for COVID-19, I will be posting an ambience that I've recorded from somewhere around the world.

[#2] Michigan's Copper Country was home to one of the first major mineral booms in the United States.  Hundreds of undocumented mining sites still dot the region waiting to be discovered.  Hidden deep in the forest, this partially submerged 150-foot adit is a home to bats who suffer from White Nose Syndrome.

Chromatic Rain

Recorded earlier this year while Lucia and I went out to capture the sunrise at Sharkfin Cove. Recorded using the MiPre 3 II in 32-bit float mode with two Clippy EM272 lavalier microphones about a foot apart on a coat hanger stuck into the sand. Normalized the audio and applied some EQ. Any recommended adjustments for processing would be appreciated! Enjoy the sound of some waves in a cave :)
