Liquid Memoirs & Aleyum - Future Nostalgia

Immerse yourself in 'Con el agua por sendero,' a heartfelt love song originally composed in 1995 by Richard Dobeson for his then-girlfriend, now wife of 26 years. 

This remastered pop-rock track, set at a mellow 95 BPM, opens with a delicate guitar arpeggio layered over lush string-like pads, complemented by melodic clarinet motifs that infuse a jazz essence. 

The lead vocals, interwoven with clarinet phrases, convey deep emotion, while the string and keyboard arrangements add a classical touch.

"Moon Lake" is a neo-classical orchestral composition by Spanish-Irish composer Richard Dobeson, blending acoustic and electronic textures in a serene, emotionally rich soundscape. Written for harp, strings, woodwinds, French horns, and cinematic percussion, the piece unfolds slowly, evoking the shimmering light of a full moon on a quiet mountain lake.

A constant harp arpeggio supports a flowing melody that passes gracefully between clarinet, oboe, and flute, sometimes combining in octaves to heighten its purity. Subtle electronic percussion adds mystery, like a whispered promise waiting to be fulfilled.

The music grows gently, with pizzicato basses, timpani, and taikos lending gravity without drama. Moon Lake carries no tension—only the peaceful beauty of nature and the calm of a heart that rests in eternal promises.

Inspired by Psalm 89:37, this is not just music for listening, but a moment of stillness to remember what endures:

"It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in the heaven." (Psalm 89:37)

Double Bind (2013) was largely inspired by the writings of Gregory Bateson and Ronald David Laing. The EP explored dualities and the different selves we use to inhabit our various faces. With this new work I wanted to take this exploration further by introducing a new self into the composition process. I created this False Self in the SuperColider programming language, as an algorithmic musician designed to compose and play alongside my true self. False Self can 'hear' and responds to my improvisations by outputting MIDI harmonizing information voiced through a Roland Integra 7 sound module. False Self stores all of our joint improvisations as MIDI musical notation. He forgets nothing.

At first False Self composed in a naive fashion, though like any good student; he became more accomplished and free thinking. As time passed I taught him various scales, time signatures and rules to follow and occasionally deviate from. For instance, I programmed him to favour certain intervals and note durations when composing for tuned bells and alternate note ranges and closer intervals for leading musical parts such as wind instruments.
 
As the project progressed I found that if I positively adjusted the timing of his MIDI notes in post-production it would give the illusion that he had led the composition and I had been his accompanist. Further I realized that if I recycled the simple initial composition through False Self he would respond with another layer of instrumentation; or as in the case of It Becomes You, I found that if I removed the notation for the lead melody I had composed; then recycled the composition through False Self, my artificial assistant would compose in the vacant space, often to interesting results.

The project frequently gave rise to the question of what and why is something in ‘good’ taste. False Self may have followed all of the rules, but due to some unforeseen condition he would make a decision that would take me off guard and lead my improvisations into new territory. At times I would write accompanying parts myself then later question whether they had been composed by my true self or the imposter.

Once False Self and I were happy with our compositions, the MIDI notation for the elements that were sounded by the Roland Integra 7 module was transferred into a REAPER workstation DAW. These musical parts were then rerecorded by human musicians and the synthesized elements rerecorded with my Korg Delta, Korg Poly 61, Yamaha DX7ii and Roland D550. The older synthesizers were all recorded as live performances to humanise the compositions and ensure that the record did not fall into the trap of rigidity.

I decided to master the sound levels in a comparable overall volume and fashion to early 1980s ambient music and hired two effects processors from the era, an Eventide H3000 and an Eventide SP 2016 reverberation unit to enhance the creative mixing process.

Resina is the alias of Karolina Rec, a cellist and composer based in Warsaw, Poland.

Born 1982, Karolina graduated from the Music Academy in Gdansk and the University of Gdansk. Active in Poland’s independent music scene since the late ’00s, she was co-founder / collaborator of some of Poland’s most influential alternative bands: Kings of Caramel, Cieslak and Princess, Nathalie And The Loners, Anthony Chorale and more. She has featured on numerous album releases and soundtracks (including the Oscar-nominated ‘Rabbit a la Berlin’), and has been the author of a dozen music productions for theatre. A compulsive live artist, Karolina’s style is primarily characterized by personal language of improvisation and alternative approach to melody. She has collaborated with Scott McCloud, Paul Brody, Piotr Kurek, Coldair, Scianka and many other artists.

Resina was signed to 130701 in February 2016, having sent in a hugely impressive demo. Her self-titled debut album is a result of experiments with cello and simple electronic tools – sometimes close to the form of song; sometimes based more on powerful, intuitive impressions but always marked by the desire to use non-obvious characteristics of the instrument. It is set for release on September 30t,  2016.

Fusing together the purity of classical sounds and the sonic richness of electronic instruments, Spanish composer Richard Dobeson creates a universe that is expressive, imaginative and wonderfully relatable.

Born of Irish origin, Richard Dobeson lives in Madrid where his home studio is located. From here, he crafts compositions that explore the human connection to peace, love and unity. His eclectic soundscapes experiment with neo-classical, progressive, and art rock genres, but his signature presence is in the cinematic quality found in each piece. 

Richard Dobeson has dedicated his life to music, pouring his soul into every note, melody and instrument. The years of music education, knowledge and expertise have allowed Dobeson to express himself eloquently through music. His humble beginnings in music began as a teenager, possessing a natural talent for the guitar and his passion for performing. Much of his time was
spent studying and practising the instrument to develop a style that would become unique to Dobeson.

Guided by professionals, his thirst for musical knowledge only intensified. Continuing his studies in Classical and Jazz training, his next venture would be in the electric guitar with Jorge Cabadas and David Gwynn. Nano Riverola and Goya Award-winning Eva Gancedo would assist him in his Ear Training, Piano, Harmony, Composition, Arranging and Film Scoring studies. These courses would greatly influence his creative songwriting abilities. His knowledge in piano and clarinet gave him access to new depths and dimensions within his pieces, combining classical instrumentation
with vivid electronic sounds.

Richard Dobeson’s music has accompanied cinematic visuals, writing for film and media. He was also the accompanying guitarist for singer Dani Martin, who would later form ‘Canto del Loco’. His own personal work has seen the releases of an array of EPs and singles, including ‘Elysium Bliss,’ ‘Deep Heart’ and ‘Wild Flower.’ February will welcome the release of his upcoming single
‘Largo,’ a euphoric composition that puts the world into perspective. ‘Largo’ will be released on the 17th February 2022.

The result of Richard Dobeson’s vibrant career and spirited connection with music is a colourful, artistic and dynamic world that brings awareness to the mind, body and soul.
