This song was written eight years ago as the darkness of the first Trump presidency was making itself known. And now once again we have the unthinkable -- this disastrous human being with power at his fingers.  And he's already busy spreading lies, fear, and hate.

At 1142 metres above sea level, the ‘Brocken’ (also known as the ‘Blocksberg’) is the highest mountain in the ‘Harz’, a mid-range mountain group in Central Germany. Put simply, it is a large block of granite, a plutonic rock. It is shrouded in legends and mystery. My father grew up in this area as a child and of course knew the old stories and myths, including some about the so-called "Brocken Ghost"...

I am thinking back to the time when for the four of us, the known world hardly existed; days became simply the spaces between dreams, spaces between the shifting floors of time, of acting, of living out the topical… a tide of meaningless affairs nosing along the dead level of things, entering no climate, leading us nowhere, demanding of us nothing save the impossible— that we should be.
