Fresh off the back of her well-received debut drum & bass EP ‘Desert Lights’ and previous singles ‘Mesmerise’, ‘Return To Me’ and ‘Human Trumpet’, the bass music icon has upped the levels once again as she continues to showcase her musical versatility through her love for higher tempos. With her latest single inspired by her trips in isolation into the Los Angeles desert to amp up creative spirits, Flava D’s new music is a refreshing take and a clear demonstration of her constantly evolving sound.

Paving the way for the new generation of liquid drum & bass, ‘All We Ever Do’ is laced with soulful piano sample chops, gentle percussion and the graceful vocal collaborations of Paige Eliza and DRS. The jazzy vocal melodies of Leeds-based Paige Eliza float elegantly amongst legendary MC and vocalist DRS’ raw flows, as Flava D brings it all together with a warm bassline, snappy drums and her many years of experience as a top tier producer.

Hospital Records are extremely proud to present ‘Smile & Wave’, the second studio album from drum & bass’ friendliest MC, Inja. With the biggest smile on his face, the lyricist, vocalist, poet, artist and storyteller delivers 16 tracks, seamlessly weaved together through Inja’s infectiously feel-good flow and sincere wordsmithery. The entire album was produced by Whiney, further cementing their relationship as one of the most untestable dance music pairings. Also featuring Charlotte Haining, Eva Lazarus, DRS, Fox, Cleveland Watkiss, Singing Fats, and DJ Marky. 

Album title track ‘Smile & Wave’ is the musical embodiment of Inja’s playful demeanour. Known for being the world’s smiliest artist, Inja wrote and recorded this feel-good bouncer alongside his daughter who is “pretty much the first person to hear anything” he’s up to musically. Expect a rude bassline and infectious wordplay.

Teaming up with superstar singer-songwriter Charlotte Haining, ‘Reach Out’ sees two of the most distinct voices in dance music come together over a bittersweet wobbler written about times when you feel “so out of place, out of reach” in the words of Inja. Having worked alongside an impressive array of electronic artists including Hybrid Minds, Sub Focus, My Nu Leng and Friction, Charlotte’s delicately powerful hooks are the perfect counterpart to Inja’s heartfelt flows.

Luscious pads and dubbed out pianos and guitars set the scene on ‘Baby Angel’ featuring the worldwide wave-maker Eva Lazarus who returns to Hospital Records for the first time since featuring on Etherwood’s ‘Light My Way Home’ back in 2015. Having worked alongside staple figures including Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Zed Bias and Gentlemen’s Dub Club, Eva infuses her reggae, hip-hop and jungle flavours alongside Inja’s humbling storytellings.  

Inja’s “personal favourite to perform live as it smashes every and any system”, ‘Explode’, is a 140BPM anthem featuring flows that will ignite any room and a killer instrumental that will have you bobbing no questions asked. Proving himself to be a versatile and skillful microphone controller, Inja’s ability to shell down any tempo is ever more apparent on this upfront banger.

Three legendary MCs unite on ‘Hands, Lights, Flames, Phones’ where Inja joins forces with two of Manchester’s very finest - DRS and Fox. Sharp lyricism is rife as the triple threat of three titan wordsmiths link up, seeing energetic bars bouncing off each other over a cold-cut drum & bass roller. This is a combination not to be tested.

Inja has established himself as a pinnacle figure within the realms of drum & bass. Loved for his ability to express his thoughts into honest, relatable lyrics in ‘She Just Wanna Dance’, a spoken word piece for Amnesty International that was a viral online hit in 2017, and more recently switching it up to ‘We Just Wanna Dance’ during the UK lockdown, expressing his desire to be reconnected with ravers again. The absolutely huge feat which is Maztek’s forthcoming LP is finally upon us. ‘Warpath’ was rumoured since the drum & bass veteran dropped his first single, a collaboration with Aeph, on his newly created 0101 imprint, which signified a brand new creative endeavour for an artist who’s spent years crafting himself into the genre’s history.
And it’ll be yet another defining output for one of neuro’s pioneers, who’s already paved his way with a number of releases and will continue to do so with the calibre of music showcased throughout ‘Warpath’s track listing.

‘Warpath’ presents Maztek journeying back to his musical roots, whilst he brings through a host of talented artists to collaborate and feature on an epically diverse selection of records. Three years of ideas, work and struggle, ‘Warpath’ is a concoction of both old school and new school, drawing out its hip hop, reggae and drum & bass roots with a passion that modern neurofunk has afforded him. His aim was to bring back the same vibes which got him hooked on the genre, but give them a more contemporary twist, with some tracks purposefully sounding more electronic or acoustic. It’s the acoustic snares and drums prevalent across the album which help translate Maztek’s music into a live setting, which is the reason why his cuts are so devastating on the dancefloor.

First track, Maztek and Redpill’s ‘Electronic Warfare’, sets a standard, slicing deep with every stab of sonic disturbance. Next up, ‘The Dirt’ has already made the rounds alongside his other featured collaboration with Aeph ‘Trajectory’, with both tracks having already caused carnage on dancefloors since they were unmasked earlier this year, with Aeph appearing again to obliterate more speakers alongside ‘What You Got’. Maztek’s standalone delivery ‘Cheeky Dub’ helps to encapsulate the LP’s ethos, a return to the true sound which runs through the heart of all his productions. Notorious frontmen and women like MC Mota, Pendulum’s Ben Verse, Virus Syndicate, Nuklear MC and Miss Trouble also add their vocal crooning into the mix, adding perfect swathes of cool throughout the album’s offerings. Maztek & Gridlok’s ‘Gladiators’ makes a reappearance, yet another heavyweight merging of minds. Tracks like ‘Pandamonium’, ‘Bass Drop’, ‘Back to the Jungle’, ‘Come Closer’ and ‘Timeless’ further highlight the unbridled diversity of Maztek, even within the darker constraints of drum & bass. And this is one reason why ‘Warpath’ will hold up against the test of time, alongside the legacy of an artist who’s been able to draw from an intimidating array of artists for his biggest work of art to date.
