Konshens, one of the biggest names in Jamaican dancehall, is back with his latest album, ‘Pool Party.’ In this exclusive commentary, the vocalist talks about the making of album tracks and his creative process, including working with rapper The Game on the reggae-hip-hop mashup “Battle Zone” and absorbing the “culture clash” of bringing in producer Eric Bellinger on “Rich Sex.” Those two “linked up perfectly,” Konshens says. He explains how “Bak Dat Azz Up” came about organically during a radio appearance in Miami, inspired by Juvenile’s mega 1999 hit of the same name, which was “such an inspiration to me coming up as an artist.” Hear directly from Konshens, only on SoundCloud.

On their second album, ‘WOW!,’ the sibling duo of Savannah and Brandon Hudson double down on their synth-pop sound. In this exclusive commentary, the LA-based act BETWEEN FRIENDS discusses the making of, and inspirations behind, tracks from the album. “Chevron” captures the sound of the record, they say, like something that feels both “lost and found.” “BLOW” is infused with their sonic DNA — “loud synths, distortion, gang-vocal chorus. We were building a world we really wanted to step into,” Savannah tells SoundCloud. The last track they wrote for the project, “JAM !,” came from “an itch to make one more crazy song. The latest single from India Shawn, “Cotton Candy Blvd,” is about “giving into your impulses,” she says. “Going on this joyride that could be really sweet or could get kind of sticky.” In this exclusive commentary, the LA-based alternative R&B singer talks about the making of and inspirations for the track. Having written songs for Monica, Chris Brown and Solange, India Shawn also says she was inspired by acts like Tame Impala and MGMT.
