It’s grime time! Or Is it? Time is an illusion: our naive perception of its flow doesn't correspond to physical reality. Edition number 72 of the Shell Tape series does away with convention, inching a quarter past local don dada Jefferson’s world famous “Grime Time” into uncharted, genre blurring territory. 

The drink, the dance and the bubble are all present in this hour long UK-centric musical education, no doubt about it - but this mix is so much more than a handful of reloads and remixes of Pulse X. Ducking and diving from soulful two step edits, afro-beat tinged hip-hop, closely guarded digital dubplates and, as the title suggests, hefty slabs of grime and UK grooves, Jefferson hoons round our musical clock face ruthlessly - gun fingers never returning to the holster.

Baker Street flips (yes, the saxophone song,) dubbed out disco re-licks and heavyweight bass lines all rip through this hour long masterclass of grime and adjacent genres - Jefferson’s passion for music shining throughout all of it. Bow bow, it’s quarter past grime time!

Richmond Street Records began its life in 2010 as a Central Music Industry Training (CMIT) based operation run by Diploma students in the Music Business course.

In its early form, it was used as a basis to expose the talent from the Music Performance and Technical Production streams of the college through its first release, ‘Stacked 2010’, receiving great reception from industry figures and fans alike. 

Following ‘Stacked 2010’ a free compilation CD of CMIT’s finest has successfully been released each year to industry and public in November. 

Richmond Street Records is always broadening its gaze to branch out even further. Each year a new team of enthusiastic young professionals take over. Challenging old techniques, experimenting with new media tools and growing the successes of past years, while standing at the forefront of the Perth music scene, we leave our mark by assisting local artists with their musical ambitions and dreams. North Metropolitan TAFE music performance graduates have gone on to form bands such as Birds of Tokyo, Karnivool, Gyroscope, Eskimo Joe, Downsyde, Ruby Boots and Georgi Kay to name a few.
