Jel Ford kicks off his return EP with two tracks of clean big room techno. The title track ‘Backyard’ is a moody affair with a low drone throughout that is complimented with layered synth stabs. Using reverb to create atmosphere within the track it subtly breaks down before a vocal hook transcends the track to deliver a killer blow. ‘Meeting of Minds’ is dubbier and uses a tripped out synth to add rhythm whilst working alongside a synth pattern to keep the track chugging along. The slow evolving pads add texture and keep the track nicely filled out whilst this timeless classic keeps on giving.

Hamburg born, Berlin based jackin’ house and techno talent Sidney Charles has just released his new album entitled ‘House Lessons’ through AVOTRE; a label he assisted in constructing. 

Whatever shade of house or techno the Sankeys resident is producing, it always seems to be packed full of rigid grooves, authentic sounds and sophisticated beats which always get the dance floor bumping. 

His new LP, ‘House Lessons’ is the perfect cabinet of Sidney’s body of work to date, sixteen heavyweight grooves fashioned with intent to make you move. The album includes collaborations and remixes from other prestigious artists such as DJ Sneak, Santé, Darius Syrossian, Pan-Pot, Hot Since 82 and Patrick Topping. 

Sidney has given DJ Mag readers an exclusive first listen to his new track ‘Housin Da Rave’ and also stopped by to have a quick chat about ‘House Lessons’.

If you think of the UK’s best techno’s most prolific techno labels, Soma Quality are right there at the top. For the last 25 years Slam’s imprint has put out consistently killer music from some of 4/4’s most leading edge producers, with the likes of Funk D’Void, The Black Dog, Surgeon and Schatrax all making frequent appearances across the imprint’s back catalogue. 

One of their more recent signings is Rebekah, the Birmingham-born producer who first cut her teeth DJing in the late 90s. After a busy touring schedule early on in her career she became a part of Chris Liebing’s CLR label, before Soma picked her up for an EP in 2015. Earlier on this year, they also put out her debut LP Fear Paralysis, an album spanning the breadth of contemporary techno.

Rebekah’s next drop on Soma will be an EP of remixes from Fear Paralysis, with the likes of Slam and JoeFarr reworking some of the album’s best cuts. With their return to Farringdon just around the corner this Saturday, Slam sent us over their hard-hitting remix of Rebekah’s Code Black to premiere ahead of their appearance.

The X Vinyl Series continues with label head Florian Meindl at the helm with the upcoming release Metaphysics. Synonymous with deep, dark techno, Florian does not disappoint with this 4 track EP, enlisting in demand producer and Rabe label boss Denise Rabe on remixing duties. Playing live with his Modular Synth set up, Florian began working on the concept for what would become these three original tracks while playing shows over the last month. The live jam character can clearly be felt in the first two tracks Metaphysics and Holomorphic Function. Florians original Bell's Theorem has a deep melodic structure. With Denise Rabes interpretation, the track is contorted through some serious distortion pedals and broken beat to match her dark take on the synth line. The outcome is an impressive piece for one of those never ending nights in concrete walled rooms with oversized loudspeakers.

Experienced techno innovator Ellen Allien curates the second batch of remixes that give new life to material from her recent album ‘Alientronic’, which includes FJAAK's thunderous and acidic rendition of 'Bowie In Harmony'.
