2022 and we're still house dancing

Danny and I met for "Random Circles" and wanted to take the opportunity to convert the excitement and energy created by this event into something sustainable. 

This is our contribution to this unforgettable time in Frankfurt.
We invited some friends over to Danny's house and did a little session according to the slogan: "For the love of house, for the love of beats, for the love of dance"

This is something for those who want to go self-searching in the training room, but also for those who just want to sit back, relax and enjoy their flight.

The success of the 1st House An Nou Party in January 2023 who took place in a packed, and full of energy La Flèche d'Or proved that the marriage between those 2 diasporic cultures was expected.

Dans ce troisième volume de "M.A.D Brains Series", nous recevons Tijo Aimé, qui , comme dans les deux premiers volumes réponds à nos questions !

🗣️ Comment as tu découvert la musique électronique ? Et depuis combien de temps mixes tu ? 
- J’ai découvert la house music par le biais de la Hip-House, les remix qu’il y avait sur les faces B des disques Hip Hop en 1989 comme ceux de Jungle Brothers et bien d’autres de la Native Tongue...Mantronix aussi , Precious. Mais clairement à cette époque je considerai tout ça comme du hip-hop. Puis après avec plus de précisions en voyant les danseurs dans les 1ers titres les plus connus comme Crystal waters / Robin S / Ruffneck...
Radio Nova a vraiment jouée dans mon éducation au rap Américain et Français , avec mes grands frères on enregistrait toutes les émissions. C’est comme ça que j’en suis venu à découvrir l'émission de Dj Deep en 1995-96. Cela était une base fondamentale pour moi en terme de direction, la sélection était différente des autres émissions que l’on pouvait entendre ailleurs.
- Je mixe réellement depuis 1998, mon frère était DJ, j’ai appris en le regardant.

🗣️ Quel est ton meilleur souvenir dans musique électronique ? 
- Mon meilleur souvenir est aux soirées Shelter en 1998 à New York, Timmy Regisford aux platines. Tout le monde chante et danse, le son est puissant et de qualité, les lumières... L’ambiance était ruff les gens savaient pourquoi ils étaient la, bref la culture à sa source.

🗣️ Quelle est ta plus grande inspiration ? 
- Je n’ai pas une plus grande inspiration, mais des inspirations quand je vois des DJ de Talents ou des références comme : Joe Claussel, Timmy Regisford, Theo Parrish et bien d'autres qui te font voyager sans que tu le sentes dans différents univers et te refont découvrir des classiques d'une autre manière

- Ahhh je n’ai pas de morceau du moment mais des morceaux...Bon j’en choisi un, un peu de douceur :

Read on below for a mini interview as we asked the dancer / DJ some questions!

How do you see your role in the history of house dance culture in France and Europe?

I belong to the group of pioneers in France. I have helped spread this dance in France and throughout Europe since the middle of the 90s. Transmitting this culture has always been important to me, be it in my professional career as a dancer or as a DJ though my " Atmosphère" project.

What was it that made Paris the centre of house dance culture in Europe? Was it the people? Competitions? Clubs?

 .When we first took part in this movement, we already had a strong knowledge of clubbing due to the fact that we were already part of the cosmopolitan and rich hip hop culture.
There is a strong Hip Hop club culture in France that has been a foundation for the history of dance, clubs were the only spaces available to us to express ourselves.
As a result, for long time we were just a few of us, twenty at the most, sharing this passion; our favourite clubs between 1996 and 2004 were the Queen "respect party", the Rex Club "legends party", the Cheers, the Djoon and I’m sure I’m forgetting many others ...
When battles began with the Juste Debout (Just Standing), this popularised this dance and its dancers who were already household names in the Hip Hop world. 
French house dance got known and recognized by the general public through these competitions.

Was it the people?
In chronological order until today Mission Impossible , Queen Step , O trip House, Serial Steppers and of course many dancers.
 

When was the first time you saw house dance and what was your reaction?

The first time I saw house dance was in music videos in 1992, Crystal waters "gypsy woman" and many others ... the documentary "house of trees" that was broadcast in France.
I did not know what this dance was called but I loved the energy that came out itu, and above all I recognised the same American dancers in hip hop but not on the same musical genre, it was natural to follow this new trend.
 
As a DJ what are you trying to do when you play music?

I try to tell a story and to surprise people, to connect as much as possible with the people on the dance floor to make them travel while making them discover my musical identity.
 
Tell us how O'Trip House came together.

Otrip house is a collective made us of different groups and spanning many generations, Mission Impossible, Sans Rancune, 7th sense, Asphalte.
The collective was created in 2003 on Meech ‘s initiatve
 
You are one of the first generation of people / crews to do house dance in Paris. Were there many people doing the same?
Between 1997 - 2004 there was few people to practice this dance in club, like i said 20 but after 2004 it has grown until today .
 
You dance and you DJ. What else do you enjoy?

I love music and art in general, I stay curious about everything and I love the artistic projects in which I can get out of my usual routine, I love to develop new perspectives.  
 
In your opinion what makes a good DJ?
 
A DJ is someone who makes people dance, with his own musical imprint, I'll make it short, it's more or less a music “transmitter”
 
In your opinion what makes a good dancer?

Hard work, hard work, hard work, sensitivity to my art and hard work always…
