Now in its 200th instalment, this Podcast has given voice to a diverse offering of global talents across the musical spectrum, from the democratic rhythms of zeitgeist appropriate techno and house through to more avant-garde synthwork.

This next guest has cast a large shadow over the technosphere, so large in fact, that no introduction could fully encompass the breadth of his achievements. But in brief: Ben Klock is a titan whose formative years were spent playing marathon mixes to the crowds at Berlin’s (then recently opened) Berghain. Off the back of his endurance sets and the club’s success he became a household name whose influence grew to be felt across the world, with a body of work that includes appearances at an exhaustive list of clubs and festivals, a number of hot releases on Ostgut Ton and an equally respected self-run label (Klockworks) to boot. On this second imprint, his own productions have repeatedly seen the light of day, alongside those from the likes of DVS1, Sterac, Stef Mendesidis and younger talents like Temudo and Vil & Cravo. The sound, ubiquitous as it is, will be familiar to anyone involved in the world of electronic music and there’s good reason for that: Klock’s deep and percussive work and ability to pull from a wide range of influences have earmarked him as a unique agent for the techno cause. Atmospheric and delivered with hammering force, Klock’s refined palette for rhythms is as relevant now as ever. Leading up to his debut Tresor release Backward Improvement, @ufo95ufo95 has prepared a mix of ultra forward motion and cavernous four to the floor thumps. Starting with tense dissonant chords and sparse hits reverberating in a sci-fi atmosphere, the mix launches us into an hour of hefty techno shuffles, and rebounding rhythms and rumbles. Alongside the unreleased cuts are select tracks from the Sandwell District crew, like ‘Hunting Lodge’ with icy grains flowing between synth stabs while heaving kicks pulsate and implode. “I made this mix on Ableton and added some 909 jams. The major part of the mix contains my unreleased tracks mixed with techno classics from Sandwell District, Silent Servant, Shifted & more. I went through deep, hypnotic, dub and club oriented techno during these 60 minutes.”

Bleep Mix #278 - UFO95

Emerging as Phase Fatale in 2014, Berlin-based DJ, producer and label owner, Hayden Payne is rewriting the discourse of Techno with his cross-pollination of gnarly basslines, sensual narratives and mind-control mechanics. Demonstrating his vision through an authentic, highly curated sonic-lens of techno, Payne’s rhythmic excursions draw on both his roots in the New York and Berlin underground as well as his reputable experience performing to dancefloors globally. Exemplified by long-standing tenures as a resident for esteemed institutions such as Berghain as well as KHIDI in Georgia's capital Tbilisi, Payne demonstrates a resolute understanding of harnessing club synergy across his productions and DJ sets. 

With three full length albums under his belt, including the 2020 sophomore release ‘Scanning Backwards’ on Berghain’s Ostgut Ton, Payne’s sonic signature pushes the boundaries of techno sensibilities and reflects the zeitgeist whilst staying true to his own vision. Wasting no time since his solo project’s inception to showcase his expert sonic ability, Payne has toured globally performing at renowned clubs and festivals worldwide, releasing numerous records on labels including Jealous God, Ostgut Ton, and his own label BITE. 

Payne co-launched the BITE imprint in 2018 as a means to platform cutting-edge sound production across a diverse roster of international artists. Along with fellow Soft Crash protagonist Pablo Bozzi pioneering ‘Italo Body Music’, BITE’s seminal synthesis of curated techno solidifies the label as a tour de force taste-maker within electronic music with showcases worldwide including Berghain and their 5 year anniversary compilation ‘Shedding Skin’ in 2023. 

Hailing from post-punk roots, Payne draws on his depth of musical knowledge and multitude of influences. His merging of nuanced references and high concept narratives remain geared towards the dancefloor at its core, subtleties of his multifarious sonic palette act as the foundations for his layered wall of sound.

"I’ve been really enjoying playing ‘Bloom’ from up and coming Berlin producer Symbolism on PTHM recently. It’s an immersive and rolling techno track with a dark and dub’y atmosphere. You hear a bit of the dub sound coming back at the moment which is nice, but this is the way I like it over the more chord driven dryer sounding stuff. It’s quite versatile, intriguing and very adaptable for DJ’ing with."

Mala Junta rabble rousers DJ Tool and D.Dan are up next for Zenaari Mix 010, but leave your biases at the door because this isn’t their usual high-speed mischief. In the vein of Zenaari’s hallmark off-kilter electronics the Berlin based pair are here instead to take you on a journey within. This one’s less for warehouse raving, more for solo spiritual contemplation: an invitation to probe the subconscious and transcend material experience. It’s a thorough exploration of their ambient predilections that range from featherlight textures to faded melodies that lilt like waves on a metaphysical shore. This liminal collage of gentle lullabies and acoustic murmurs is soft and a touch plaintive, but warm and loving all the same. Invoking everything from glitchy IDM to ballads that bend towards the strange and pineal, a technicolor dream sequence conjured up by this offbeat techno double-act.

While Berlin's nightlife scene has a reputation for attracting a revolving door of people, those who are here to stay have had to witness the same painful cycle repeat itself over and over again: the best parties get too big, too fast and––due to forced venue changes and shifting crowds––lose their spark too soon.

RIDE is the lovechild of a group of friends whose bonds were forged on the dance floors of the parties, clubs and safe spaces that have been lost over time. Motivated by a shared need for a breath of fresh air in the scene, RIDE's founders pooled their talents, wisdom and experiences together to create an event that fills the gaps left by bygone institutions and that is, above all, a party they themselves would love to attend. 

After the prolonged uncertainty and stress of the pandemic years, RIDE burst onto the scene with the colorful and joyful energy of 90s club nights in New York and London. These frisky family affairs are soundtracked by both up-and-coming and well-established DJs who prioritize pleasure while serving their own unique flavor of groove, penetrating dancers' ears and bodies with everything from techno and ghetto to powerhouse and trance. 

From the moment it opened its doors, RIDE has proven itself to be a liberating sanctuary for the queer community. Each party is an enthusiastic invitation for guests of all colors, shapes, sizes and identities to be themselves, express themselves and explore their desires in an inclusive space shaped by authenticity and mutual respect. Due to the rarity of its warm and inviting environment, RIDE is a place where the silver lining in music is always audible and where everyone is made to feel like family.
