French-born and now living in Belgium, Don Rimini plays his tracks with the frantic energy of an English DJ, without setting aside his love for Chicago house. Through his record label @bunkaball, he proudly proclaims his taste for house, ghetto house, techno and “sometimes even tech house”, and goes live to share his edgiest finds on his monthly show.

If you’re wondering what that wonky house track was that just ignited the dance floor, you know the off-kilter one with the bizarre vocal that shouldn’t have worked but did. Then you were probably just listening to the latest Calicko track.

Artist Calicko, AKA Calvin Jenkins’ approach to music strikes right at the heart of house & techno music. Create music to make people dance, smile, laugh or scream without being judged. A musical maverick and sci-fi futurist who finds inspiration in obscure and overlooked samples. Calicko merges everything from hip hop and rock n roll down to cult classic films into his sound. This is the jackin sounds of Chicago pumped up on modern day techno and house aesthetics and washed down with a healthy dose of fun of course. 

He caught the DJ bug in the early 90’s and soon after that he was throwing his own parties, mixing a raw blend of Detroit, Chicago, NYC and European tracks. It would become his mission to seek out unusual tracks that caught the dance floor by surprise, jettisoning energy levels into orbit and rattling around inside the audiences head for days. His addiction to tracking down such records made him launch himself into production finding the support from key techno and house producers / DJ’s within the NYC scene then who have now become legends. They gave hime the support and encouraged him to follow his passion and develop his unique sound. 

Since then Calicko has gone from strength to strength as his fierce house sound translates to larger audiences. Part of the unique roster of artists within Don Rimini’s Bunkaball label - where Calicko is at home alongside artists fusing techno, ghetto house and a stripped back party sounds. Further support came courtesy of the irrepressible Dirty Bird label featuring his music on their Twitch stream and he has captured a host of new fans hooked on his infectious sound. Calicko looks set to repay his early mentors faith and take his sound to a whole new level.
