Welcome to the first episode of the Planet Méla Podcast! Today we have sound wizard Nick Worall, aka Wordcolour, on the show. Nick released his first two EP’s last year, one on Lapsus Records in Barcelona and the other on Houndstooth and they both caught my ear so I had to get in touch to see who was behind these crazy productions. In this episode we get into his history, talk about the privilege of a musical education and how that relates to local government, particularly in the UK. Towards the end we listen to one of my favorite tracks of his and he breaks down his process which I always find super interesting. It was a fun chat and I hope you enjoy it! portara0000 is the co-founder of London-based party series and record label GODDEZZ and the A&R at Tash LC's Club Yeke. Running GODDEZZ alongside Kalli, the duo have been putting on events since July 2019, booking the likes of Happa, Coco Bryce, India Jordan, Corrupt Data and more. In April 2020, they launched the label side of the platform with a hefty 23-track compilation featuring tracks from Jabes, Tim Reaper, Adam Pits, Sarah Bates, Dexorcist and more. Since then they've released music from XL Order, SEO JOHN, AHJU, BRAINBUG and an excellent rave edit of noughties classic Pure Shores from portara0000 himself. 

Looking back over the last year with this mix, portara0000 says of the session, "I recorded this mix almost exactly 1 year ago when me and Kalli were getting ready to do put out the first release on GODDEZZ in the form of a 24track V/A called ON+ON+ON and fully had the club in my third eye when putting it togeva! Propa high NRG, peak time, pumping, gnarly and vertical rave enhancers so now with the glimpse of the ravefloor in sight I feel like this is a good time to unveil it :)"

Very excited to welcome @aliciasteanson to the mix series. This ones been on the cards for a hot minute and it does not disappoint! Alicia is a producer & musician making deeply rhythmic, off-kilter dance music inspired by a love of club culture and the avante-garde. Residing in London, she cut her teeth working at Phonica and studying contemporary music, a combination that has seen her develop a passion for obscure and unusual soundscapes.  

Her sonic vision was realised recently on her mesmerising latest work  ‘Archangelic Collapse’ which dropped as part of the ‘In Clusters’ compilation on Mor Elian’s Fever AM no less. Five minutes of oblique sound design that we’ve come to expect from her radio mixes, readjusted for the dark corners of the club.

Launching the Maybe mix series is Ngunnawal (Canberra) based zara. I met zara a couple of years ago and it has been very exciting watching her grow into an exceptionally talented artist. 

zara has a great ear for layering interesting rhythms and always plays with excellent command of energy and flow: this 2 hour mix showcases that perfectly. Highlighting the breadth of her taste, zara's Maybe mix is a very well put together odyssey through deep and detailed selections.

zara has recently been honing her production too, her incredible understanding and passion for music shining through in all she does. We are all looking forward to hearing more!

After 5 years in the Shanghai local scene where she was involved as a dj, and live performer, Elise Massoni moved to Berlin to focus entirely on her music production.

She rapidly got noticed for her subtle blend of broken rhythms and delicate electro which landed her a first EP on Man Band records having her material remixed by Forest Drive West on 2 occasions.

   Being one of those wide-ranging selectors unafraid of drastic bpm and genre shifts, masterfully oscillating between fast techno, IDM, acid, and a smattering of ghetto and electro, Elise marked some notable appearances in some of Europe's most renowned clubs & festivals such as Kaiku (Helsinki), Rex Club (Paris), Dimensions and Flow festival.

   Finally relocating to Paris, Elise started her monthly residency on Rinse France in late 2018 and continues to push her sound forward and signed an opening reshape on François X's Irregular Passion reshape album (2019).

In 2020 she composed 2 short pieces to accompany artists' performances (cf. Tout ce qui ne tourne pas tombe - Chevalive Corporation, Espace Niemeyer Paris).
