An infused mix of eastern rhythms and downtempo over-dubs will slowly drag you into the void of a dystopian reality. @notteinfinita just recorded for us an hour of glitchy psychedelic tunes. All ingredients chosen by the Italian born mastermind, now based in Berlin. Giovanni already released for @oscilla-sound and @indexrecords, where he’s manipulating the hearable spectrum over the frequency limits with synthetic intelligence.

One moment you throw your arms in the air because the bass drop arrived unexpectedly, and the next you freeze, enveloped by a dense fog of ambient sounds, before a chopped vocal sample subtly conjures up the next tune. Interlooping rhythms, sudden mood shifts, and weird leaps to wherever the bassline heads, are the key signature of the Berlin-based dérive. Known for her UK Bass-driven sets, she chose her name wistfully, as the definition of the situationist movement's concept shows: "a mode of experimental behavior linked to the conditions of urban society: a technique of rapid passage through varied ambiances." A sentence one can think about, or dance to – if dérive puts on another banger.

NYC-based DJ and producer Sin - Pit shares a recording from her set at Xpizza as part of Twist's radio takeover on the 25th May 2023.

Sin - Pit spent her formative years in Singapore and Pittsburgh. Having started as a college radio DJ in Pittsburgh in 2014, she has since played predominantly at clubs in Pittsburgh, Singapore, and NYC for parties such as Nowadays Nonstop. Sin - Pit hosts a monthly radio show on The Lot Radio called Sluice with Laenz and on the production side, Sin - Pit contributed to Plum , clu's first compilation release earlier this year - a label which focuses on releasing music from non-binary, trans, and female artists.

Curator of all things weird and psychedelic, we welcome the wonderful Ikävä Pii. They are a super talented artist, curator, dj and producer based in London who has their hands dipped in many projects and collectives. With shows on Netail radio and Kindred shows his capability to produce mind-bending mixes. Being the boss and curator of Niche, a monthly gathering for performers to express their talents through avant-garde music. It is a space that encourages improvisation and collaborative shows. He also recently co-curated Gnojki SAMBA which is an intimate festival in Poland, selecting the best underground UK talent. Proving he is a force to be reckoned with releases on labels such early reflex and more. His latest ep ‘Turbo Lento’ released on Pampsychia’s ep series, is a 4-track piece inspired by ‘fungi,gnome mode, shrooms and mouldy warehouses’. We are super excited to have him create a special mix for us that explores the dark and gloominess of deep swampy electronic music. A real trip this one is.

How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?
I've been making music forever - there isn't a "before" for me :)
I was in bands for a while, then I got into producing after leaving a corporate songwriting job. I only wanted to make and listen to weird sounds and gain complete artistic freedom in my creative process: for a few years I had recorded stuff with a manipulative d*ck who even stole some of my royalties Cracking Ableton and a few plugins was cathartic. Took me a while to get to something that felt personal, then I self-released my first club-adjacent music in 2020. Now I work with DIY labels like early reflex, and Pampsychia. Absolute vibes. DJing happened to me randomly: I started in Puglia as a resident in one of the few queer clubs/events in the region; they thought my sensibility as a musician could bring an interesting angle. So I learnt with warm-ups, empty room first then crowds of 1000+ 🥵 That's where my love for slow stuff and long developments comes from.

Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?
Hard to pick a single highlight! Ulla's live show at the Jago for Goodness was  a caress to my soul. The bubbliness of Accidental Meetings nights or Diversion parties is always comfy and welcoming. Freddie Hudson's mixes are *literally* cuddles (their closing set at Gnojki was mesmerising).There are chiller, listening-oriented parties that I love, Terra Obscura is one of the very best.I once played at a fundraiser in the 2nd room at Grow Tottenham -everyone sitting down, was really special.Last weekend I was playing near Florence with the Pho Bho and Dissidanza crews - dreamlike landscape in the Chianti vineyards for 2 days with the wonkiest music, one of the coziest things ever!

Are you an introvert or extrovert in the industry?
Not a big fan of the definition of "industry'! I like to think of our scene(s) as an ecosystem resulting from the interdependencies and the inherent mutualism of music creation and fruition. Anything else is business-driven, network-y, toxic stuff.I would say I am an extrovert bc I reach out, listen, make space, connect (with) fellow music makers, lovers, workers or promoters.Although not one of those who have the confidence of emailing people to ask for stuff!

If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?
If it's eternity it has to be Kali Malone - and definitely Spectacle of Ritual, opener of one of the best albums ever made. Not a dance one!

What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? do you have any special remedies/ mental prep/ places to go to? :)I go to my studio early in the morning, your ears just work better then. Switch off my phone (new, life-changing habit), and try to avoid any beaten track, both when producing or selecting.The best habit I have before a DJ gig is talking to as many attendees as possible. When you step in, you know them more, so connect more.

CoziMix 06 - Ikävä Pii

Putting a pigeon amongst the cats we are back with that good shit. An out of step, incidental artefact of peaceful sophistry: YS - Brutal Flower (2 x “12 LP). A no airs and graces piece of cool future-proof ambience. A modern ballad for brave young clubbers, local pubbers, slipstream warriors, and emotional doggers. 

The distinctive aesthetic hallmarks of YS are all here: slabs of urban flavor from emotional interior; raw data straight from the interface. Both hopeful and mourning: this is the lay of the land in Brutal Flowers. It feels young in an ancient sort of way: pure as first snow. Unfolding with the patience, tranquility and the expansive poise of a work that is for now and always. Pulsating and gently to assured - a flickering skyline, swarming with warm memories. 

An aesthetic reflection of a creative process that is delicate and restless. Created in the edges, where long distances, fast cities and global melancholia are wrought large. Burning the midnight oil Berlin-Singapore style: from real to reel. A sentimental exercise of modern faith by old friends. With a nudge and a wink, Brutal Flowers is a (de)coded map of memories wavering with familiar intrigue. Patient listeners and the already initiated will be rewarded on revists - as playful & profound as you please, as deep as the heart. 

The scathe that cuts is clean and deep. There are no sleight of hands to be found in this opus, only hearts are worn on the sleeve here. 

If this is the final dance music boss, then so be it.
