Luca Lozano (Richard H. Kirk Tribute Show) - 26 September 2021

@biancalexis brings a whole new level to the world of eclectic DJing. Anyone who has regularly tuned into her radio sets for dublab or NTS will know that there is no limit to what she might play. It isn't just the electronic spectrum she traverses with ease, but also soul, synth-pop, folk, post-punk, soft rock and myriad other sounds. She also knows how to hold down a vibe in the club, either at her Standard Downtown LA residency or anywhere else around Europe. Later in summer, she will play at both Lente Kabinet Festival and then Dekmantel Selectors, but first...

Bianca keeps one foot firmly on the dance floor with her mix this week. That's not to say it is a traditional club set, but the whole thing is underpinned by a very seductive and danceable groove that is always slowly building. There are proto-house cuts, dusty and analogue 80s rhythms, flashes of acid and breezy, feel-good sounds that send you off on a high. It is a perfect taster of what to expect from this exciting break-out selector.

‘For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side. 

As the cold hits harder than ever before, it’s ever more important to add another layer, both mentally and physically. This audio guide is a sure way to light that fire. Walter Saint is the person in question, a man with a firm grip on the axe, dropping trees to fuel this warm sojourn. 

Walter Saint aka Connor Mackenzie grew up on Gadigal land, it’s where he sharpened his axe, and after a trip to the UK (to sharpen his axe further) he’s back in Eora (thanks covid). Whilst abroad, he caught the ear of London based ‘Bloop’ radio’s director and was quickly made a part of the team, taking up a role as editor and his own show on the channel, dubbed  ‘pacific house’ (TIP!) which keeps him busy to this day.  Now back in Eora full time and making moves on this giant chess board we call life, he’s carving his own way through his masterful approach to DJ’ing as well as working his ass off on a release coming later this year, and damn, this mix is sensational; further proving the hard work Connor has put in over the years, and what he’s truly capable of. 

Personally, I feel as though Walter has gone through my life with a shopping trolley and picked out all the premium produce that has soundtracked all the ups and downs for as far back as I can remember. So many damn hits that bait random emotions back into existence, and I know I’m not alone in this. There’s something special in here that’s going to make everyone feel something, and chances are, that it’s going to be closely related to (thesaurus: ecstasy, hope, elation, bliss, etc). 
The talent displayed in weaving this tapestry is another story all together. Beautifully natural in every way, all these tracks fit together so perfectly that one day they will base puzzles on it. The pure essence of cafe del mar brought back to life in such a spectacular way. Go buy a bag of beach sand from Bunnings, light up a shitty coconut candle and mix up a Margarita, then press play, I-BEE-FAH.

Recorded at our open-air party co-presented with @planettrip earlier this year, the siblings warmed up for maestro @floatingpoints in the breeze of twilight, where they proved themselves as well-seasoned DJ’s no longer necessitating introduction.

Wellll shiiiiiiiiit, look here, motherfucking Mosam Howieson is in the building. About time, you say? Yes, you’d be right to ask, but you’re asking the wrong question, more like, what is time? Don’t stress, it’s merely a measuring device that the entire human civilisation revolves around. Anyway, Mos is here to teach you a thing or two about time and what you can do with it. 

I’ve been lucky enough to know Mos for many years. A true gentleman in the game, forever polite and tremendously respectful. A man of many talents, and most revolve around providing for the people. A culinary cowboy by day and dance floor destroyer by night, his exceptional work ethic shining through in both forms. Mos’ production has slowly but surely infiltrated ears across the globe, labels worldwide have been picking up what Mos has been putting down, and we’re better off for it. Mos' live performances are a full-body experience, from ground-breaking ambient soundscapes to rafter-breaking post-primitive drum loops, something to add to that bucket list of yours, whilst waiting patiently for his new album coming out later this year.  For those of you that don’t know Mos, this is the perfect place to start. 

Following with the theme of time, I think Mos has completely encapsulated his existence on this earth through this mix. You can hear him in his different stages of life and all the soundtracks that came with it. From hovering over a tape deck recording tracks straight from the radio, getting up early watching video hits, burning CDs on friend's computers, weeklong mp3 downloads from lime wire riddled with viruses on the family computer, all the way up to the first-time he downloaded fruity loops and set himself on this path, it’s all here and we’ve been invited along for the ride. All of this music holds such a special place in my heart as I was on a parallel path of musical enlightenment (except my productions never made it past a 4x4 loop on a cracked version of fruity loops) a musical diary if you will, filled with ideas, aspirations, and heartache, complete with dogged ears, doodles and torn out pages. On behalf of the people listening, thank you Mos.

Closing your eyes, still not dark. A lighting rig under your lids. A night lasting 20
years, falling asleep with your favourite song on repeat. The deconstructed,
untangled memory lingers in your system. What you hear are the remnants of a
social gathering and its body movements.
KMOS. The fog machines are gone, the free deconstructed thinking laid out bare.
Fourth album. The white noise funk still here, 4 to the floor and gnarly basslines.
The jazz but the tight, the funk but the taut. The austere but the flow. The
instruments, sinuous and intricate. The deconstructed dancefloor. Sawed up bits,
sawed up pieces. The drums the strings the claps the sharpness. Rearranged,
picked apart. organized for a new day. A new idea. A new blueprint. A brave
new clear elusive promise. The love in the strict. The strict but the mess. The strict
but the lie. A promise.
Drifting through a sleepless world. The rent, the eyes, the mirror the scrolling the
daylight, and the gravel in your eyes. Sounds of endless nights long lasting days,
reality and visions, blurred and frazzled. The eavesdropping the neighbour the
conversations the sleep. The fear and the joy and the new that I project onto you.
The loopy sound of sirens. The joy of the sun. The field, the horizon, the light, the
smoke. Xeroxed memories are now our new. The love the dream. The sleep the
wake. The wish the longing. The promise the fear. What once was promised
