Martyn’s music transcends the constraints of genre… 

Pick a track from his extensive back catalogue and you’ll be sure to hear influences from Drum ’n’ Bass, Garage, Detroit, Chicago or Dubstep - the latter of which Martyn was probably known best for having been influential in the evolution of the “Post-Dubstep” sound in London that was so closely connected with institutions like Plastic People and FWD>.   

This broad collection of influences has created a sound that is distinctively, Martyn, and as an extension of that, a sound that is very much associated with his own label, 3024. It has also found it’s way on to the best labels across the electronic landscape, including Ninja Tune, Warp, Hyperdub, Brainfeeder and Ostgut Ton to name a few.  

His ability as a DJ runs parallel to his achievements as a producer, having secured his place in fabric history over 10 years ago with his contribution to our fabric CD series. A perfect snapshot of a place in time with music from Kode9, Actress, Zomby, Joy Orbison and lot’s more.

"As a DJ, I have been more and more interested to play more percussive based tracks, giving me more freedom to navigate genres. But recently, I have got the chance to muscle up my game a bit more on some techno dancefloors, and I really enjoy playing with this kind of energy. So this podcast is a bit a reflection of these experiences. The track selection contains some unreleased tracks of mine and others."

The Cover Mix: rRoxymore

XDB is Kosta Athanassiadis – German by birth and in residence, with Greek parentage. He started djing in the early 90s and still plays vinyl only. Over the years his music was released on labels like Dolly, Harbour City Sorrow and Sistrum. In 2006 he started the record label Metrolux. There’s a refreshing lack of gimmickry to his approach – keeping it low-key allows him to be judged solely on the basis of talent. Enjoy!

Raised in Manchester studying Jazz at Chethams School of Music and Trinity College of Music, Paleman has rapidly risen through the ranks since emerging in 2012 from the UKs vibrant post-dubstep scene. He has quickly become one of the UK’s most respected DJs and producers. This mix primarily focuses on percussive and deep dance floor hypnosis and the showcasing of unreleased and forthcoming tracks from both Paleman and other producers in the techno sphere. It was improvised and recorded in one take to hopefully capture some tension, energy and to keep the flow a little raw and human as it would be in the club.
