With his @shaytoonrecords label, @sepehr-a has built a platform for underground techno and electronic music from the Iranian diaspora. But the versatile New York-based producer and DJ fights oversimplified categorisations and pigeonholing at every turn, extracting as much influence from obscure ‘90s rave records as much as Persian mythology

Alongside a 90-minute On Cue mix demonstrating this sound, he tells Marke Bieschke about his Flower Storm project with Kasra V, the influence of Silent Servant, and his grunge-influenced new band.

For our 51st episode of FRiends and Family, we're thrilled to host a brilliant recording of a two hour set by @nathanielyoung who makes music and DJs as Guilt Attendant. Nathaniel runs the @uxz label alongside @lycheefrut , and they are also a brilliant designer, working as the creative director for @daisrecords (check out the insane Juno X merch collaboration between Dais and @rolandcom on their website linked below!!). This is two hours of techno as both escape and resistance, recorded live, March 7th, 2024, at Mansions in NYC for the UXZ-03 release party and label night a few weeks ago. "My warm-up mix is a zany trip through my mind for an hour and a peek into what a solo set from me at the festival might look like — 100% KL special low-frequency version. I’m happy to be showing more specific strains of what I do in B2Bs this year, and grateful for the opportunity to spin it out at the speed of sound in this mix. Influenced by the never-ending cycles of violence, corruption, and fascistic decline we’re forced to exist within on Earth, as well as the way music can be both a communicator of liberatory ideas and also a pacifying force to maintain the status quo of white supremacist capitalist patriarchy. The strategic adversary is fascism - free everywhere and destroy what destroys you. A better world is possible.

There's lots of music within visionary worldbuilders and friends and an upcoming release from myself, Johnny Zoloft, and Gladstone Deluxe entitled 'Total Body Extension'. Keep your heart and mind open - I hope this mix can soundtrack some moments of discord, headbanging, and hip-moving."
