The Eclipse Digging Deeper Tribute Pt I - 1990

Nai is a Sarajevo-born, Warsaw-based DJ and emerging producer known for her genre-fluid approach and love for broken rhythms. She has played at festivals such as LAS Festival, Summer Contrast, and The X Festival, and appeared in numerous clubs across Poland including Szpitalna 1 (Kraków), K-Bar Powiśle (Warsaw), NRD (Toruń), Mózg (Bydgoszcz), Willa w Parku (Łódź), Ciało (Wrocław).

In 2021, she made her production debut with “Dunes”, a collaboration with Kosay, released on Breaky Vibes. Nai continues to develop her craft with a spirit of curiosity and experimentation. Her upcoming track “Blushing Phantom”, also created with Kosay, is set to be released on ION Recordings.

Nai is a co-founder of Spectrum, alongside Kosay and Panton. Spectrum is a collective dedicated to promoting broken, breaky, multi-genre music

NAI - GENRE FLUID

Manchester’s techno pioneers, 808 State, were formed in 1988 when Martin Price, owner of the city’s seminal Eastern Bloc underground record store, teamed up with Graham Massey, formerly of Factory Records’ Biting Tongues. Other members included Gerald Simpson(later known as A Guy Called Gerald), Andrew Barker and Darren Partington(DJ Duo The Spinmasters). Numerous collaborations & re-mixes followed as well as some of the finest acid house & techno tunes ever created.
For this mix, i have taken 26 tracks, chronologically, from the bands first 5 albums, and associated singles, between 1988 & 1991.

One of my favourite mixes of all time. Frankie Valentine puts together an amazing mix of obscurities  sprinkled with a few well known tracks. Completely different to most other UK DJ's of the time, mixing hardcore with techno and house seamlessly. It took me over 12 years from first hearing this mix to all the tunes id'ed.

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
