Forecast 075: Marathon Man / South of North

All those spirits, those walks of life, all those sound journeys between worlds, between continents. Australian duo KXB is back at R.i.O., bringing a follow up to their first record “Areas of Uncertainty”, released in 2023. This time an exquisite collab. With filmmaker and vocalist Thrush, member of the feverish band Concentration. The duo from Melbourne, and the singer from Berlin bring a collection of tracks, dubs and versions - written and produced over the last two years with the tape format in mind. Inspired by fabled underground cassette labels like New Zealand-based late 1980ees/ early 1990ees sensation Xpressway and mixed continuously as a nod to 90s jungle bootleg mixtapes like the Yaman tapes by LTJ Bukem, DJ Hype, Randall, or Peshay. Distinctive vocalist Thrush travelled South, and spent two sweltering afternoons with KXB in Melbourne, doing free-spirited improvisations in the studio, that were later pieced together into the resulting album. 13 variations in sound, in which Thrush's lyrics explore chasmic spaces and energies common to both Germany and Australia. Her voice dances partly on trip hopping rhythms and indie-tronics, while technoid vibes, alternative house zones, and vivid trips into kosmische top the collaboration off. A piece of art formed by a clique of like-minded souls – gathered their walks of life between worlds into explorer music of unexplored districts.

o•rbyss aims to help soothe the queer spectrum and focus on the well-being of the community. Queer DJs are invited to submit a mix to showcase an alternative side to their music library outside of a rave and take us on a meditative journey. ✨

Notes on the mix:

"This is mix is inspired by the early ambient sounds as produced in the nineties. Except one recent all the tracks are taken from cds and vinyls produced in the 90’s by labels such as Mille Plateaux, Rising High, Silent. With the same approach of my compilation Spaced Out (produced by Musique pour la Danse) I’m sharing my best memories from that period."

@dj-athome (Maurizio Ferrara) is an Italian Dj producer living in Brussels and one half of Front de Cadeaux and resident at Kiosk Radio. Active as a DJ and more since the early nineties, Maurizio Ferrara has cultivated a discerning relationship to the critically adventurous surges and acutely innovative currents of underground club music and vernacular experimentation for decades now. Whether selecting as DJ Athome or working as a producer, Ferrara’s breadth of influence is surely felt and rarely drifts from being anything but mesmerizing, especially for anyone that likes to move.

Mutable Ground is an album created through an exchange of recordings between Anna and Yannis. The project is rooted in the idea of sudden shifts in current events and the ever-growing emotions tied to loss, change, and tension. Each track title is inspired by unstable phenomena and objects, reflecting the potential for unexpected movement and the transitions of both nature and humanity. Repetitive, chaotic drum patterns, vocals that echo sounds of wounded or lost animals, hollow soundscapes reveal a sonic world where creation and destruction coexist—where people dance around fires, caught between fragility and resilience.

Регалий много, но мы хотим сместить акценты на новую запись, так как она заслуживает особого внимания. В ней Дима ловко жонглирует ритмами, миксуя ломаные и прямые такты, на выходе получая гармоничный и осенний саунд. Внутри: электроника, хаус и легкий эмбиент.

October 2025 marks exactly ten years since the first broadcast of Radio Punctum. It was an episode of the show Altershapes that aired live from a makeshift studio, shared as a Shoutcast streaming URL on forums as it seceded from the now-defunct Radio Streetculture to found its own station.

To celebrate this special occasion, we are releasing a massive compilation featuring music from our station's past and present residents, friends, and collaborators.

The curatorial aim was to capture the breadth of our musical programming.

Expect anything from ambient to goregrind, ambitious experimental pop to outsider songwriters, and meticulous digital soundscapes to electro and gabber bangers, as well as electronic post-punk stylings — all mastered with great care by Yukimura at Mustakillah Studio.

And so concludes the first ten years of this traveling circus.
