June 2022 marked the exact 30th anniversary of German/Belgian Patrick Stevens (°1973) project hypnoskull which was started in 1992, rooted in the aftermath of the first wave of industrial music but as well in the humid warehouses of the early techno scene of the nineties and the underground stages of harsh noise. One of the pioneers to combine industrial music with techno resulting in legendary releases on the German cult-label ant-zen, numerous live performances all over the globe in iconic clubs like CBGB’s New York, Rex Paris, KitKat Berlin and cities like Moscow, Beirut, Los Angeles, Chicago and so on, this one-man project, sometimes expanded with artists and performers from contemporary dance, theatre and film, is as unpredictable as the ideology behind it: a lo-fi, harsh, monotone assault of political thoughts, subversive rants and sheer emotional outbursts towards a society first questioned, deconstructed, destroyed and left behind without a solution or a better plan. Music as a weapon and as well as a tool for self-dissection. In recent years, hypnoskull got acknowledged by lots of producers and artists in the field of industrial techno, resulting in releases, collaborations, remix work and production for many of the big players in this genre.

For this podcast, hypnoskull selected a number of brandnew tracks and releases as well as some forgotten old gems. Crossing every possible border of whatever written and unwritten rules of whatsoever ‘scene’ or subculture, this mix fiercely shows what it is still about for Patrick Stevens, after 30 years of producing, playing live and deejaying, as he states himself: ‘I get claustrophobic when I witness how the techno scene became lately. Techno became the soundtrack provided by good looking boys and girls who strive to make their business plans come true, in clubs that degraded themselves from laboratories to corporate boxes of emptiness. That’s why I selected both some radical memories from tracks and styles which were once as well played in the clubs, and some brilliant music by new, young and emerging producers. Belgium is as well coming back from a low, especially in the city of Brussels, where plenty of astonishing producers be them Belgians or expats gather and create a new wave of exciting electronic music as we speak. That was a long time ago. They’re in here as well by the likes of Maltash, Elaina Vierce and Raum. And Paris as well, check Age of hate, ZNZL, Prophän,… There’s a great connection between both cities also. I truly believe great stuff will happen again very soon.’

MÆDON's sound is dark, heavy and exciting, a unique hybrid of industrial techno and EBM with a touch of rave. She is driven by a fierce, relentless passion for the music.

A wizard in the studio, MÆDON is known for her all-gear live sets, which are must-see events where dance floors become mesmerized by the collage of irresistible electronics and pounding grooves. Her background was in the industrial scene, and these influences are absorbed into her sound.

The mysterious Berlin-based MÆDON is one of the newer additions to the Sonic Groove family. She has already delivered two hard-hitting EPs for the imprint, 2020’s SGD release “Escape to Berlin”, and 2019’s 12 inch EP “Against His Will” This year Sonic Groove will unveil MÆDON's latest work on the LP “Now I AM Become Death”, which will be her first full length foray.

Getting her start in the rough and tough streets of Baltimore, MÆDON's first recording was released as ‘pulsewidthmod’, delivering a more techno flavored EP for the acclaimed label Detroit Underground. She followed the urban pathway into Brooklyn, continuing to develop her sound and technique until she decided to relocate to Berlin in March of 2020.

Since her arrival in Europe, she has settled in smoothly, with a flurry of releases that include an EP for the Belgium label Deviate, and also some remix work, appearing on Berlin labels Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Dream Baby Dream and the Brooklyn boutique label Synthicide.

Expect a lot more from this artist moving forward.

Blush Response is Joey Blush, a Cuban-American artist and sound designer hailing from Miami who now resides in Berlin. Blush cut his teeth doing programming work for artists such as Fear Factory, Rhys Fulber, Cristian Castro, and as a touring member of Joey Jordison (Slipknot)'s alternative rock project Scar the Martyr. A fascinating, vibrant new artist, frequenting the outer realms of post punk, industrial, techno, you-name-it and has a plethora of releases on cd, vinyl, digital and even cassette tape format to date on labels like Sonic Groove, Aufnahme + Wiedergabe, Ant-zen, and Total Black.

Common Poetry is a duo from Bogotá and founding members of the event series Rubber Mind and the new imprint Rubber Mind Recordings.
Common Poetry explores the poetics of the primitive, the failure of humanity, sexuality, magic rituals, psychedelic ceremonies, submission and power. In 2019 they performed in Europe and Asia, including a live act at Saüle, Berghain in Berlin. This year they released their first vinyl,  a V/A  compilation, 'Ecstasy & Transmutations',
Their sessions are characterized by combining heavy electronics with noise in transit between, techno, experimental, ritual and industrial/ EBM.

Each show has it's own label and these will have clanking bolts n' nuts party techno on the 'RIOT Radio Show' and a more laid back electronic approach on 'a quiet RIOT'.
