‘When We Had A Home Planet’ is the soundtrack for a short story about relatable human struggles set in a sci-fi protopia where a new generation of humans live in Europa, one of Jupiter moons.

It consists of 6 songs recorded live from Kret’s bedroom, just with a violin, a 2-track zoom and a (pretty sci-fi) pedalboard. The violin is morphed through the pedals into a voice that sounds futuristic, synthlike, but also quirky, intimate and with a fair amount of gloominess.

The album becomes a first approach to a research (in the most childlike version of the scientific method) that intends to test the limits of what we can do with a violin when we stretch its possibilities through modern technology.

“A long time ago humanity fucked up their home planet. A small and privileged part of the population managed to embark themselves into an uncertain and unprepared interplanetary voyage with hope for a new start. Two generations after, a boy has an existential crisis at the outskirts of his birth town in Europa, one of Jupiter moons.
The boy tries to reconnect with his familiar and specific heritage through the memory of his recently deceased grandmother, thanks to a tape from when she still was a teenager back on Earth. A planet that he never got to know.”

Kret is a violinist, sound engineer, composer and music researcher. He thrives on experimental music and the underground scene. He has an academic background on historically informed performance and composition for video games. He has played violin with the post-rock band Purkinje, colaborated with a varied cast of musicians such as the ambient napcore guitarrist Ubaldo, the memetic digital musician Erik Hurtado (Opus Vivaldi among others) or the producer Ferida. He self-releases music explorations with a narrative/conceptual intent, centering his music around a violin expanded through pedals and DAW.
