Off My Meds is Jacob Bellens’ new solo album and will be released in October 2023 on hfn music.

Off My Meds took shape over two turbulent years in Jacob’s life. Several major life events happened back to back in a very short time, and it ended up breaking him down to a point of total exhaustion. The energy needed to uphold the outer self we all need to function was no longer there, and his inner actual beliefs and values began to show themselves one by one, which was not pretty to look at. Change was inevitable, simply because the price of not changing would be much higher in the long term.

As a result, he experienced a reconnection to an inner world that had been buried and locked away since his late childhood. A period of extreme emotional highs and lows, but also blossoming creativity ensued - equally thrilling, productive, exuberant and nerve wrecking. The result is Off My Meds - an album like no other in his previous repertoire. It is a summary of the death of an intellectually constructed version of himself, originally created for selfprotection, that no longer served a purpose. And the following rebirth of a new and more emotionally authentic version that was difficult, but necessary.

The album is a pop-poem about accepting the premise of the life given to you. It is an ode to the perils of modern existence and our birthgiven right to love, laugh and cry, whatever hand we may have been dealt to begin with. Lyrically it is centered around self care and the courage to love someone and be loved in return. About taking responsibility for everything in your life instead of using your life history as an excuse for not living, no matter how tragic or unique your situation might be or seem to yourself. 

Musically it draws upon an eclectic mix of influences and genres, while still maintaining a distinct underlying red thread throughout the album. It is a melancholic funk hybrid with a positive DNA, and though it sounds like pop music in the best sense of the word, it doesn’t quite look and feel like pop music. It is rather a collection of sounds and feelings put into words that are deeply personal - but personal for all. 

”I made the album while doubting everything in my life.” says Jacob. “My ability to function in society, my perception of who I was at the time, my worth as an artist and as a father and caregiver. I took up painting, wrote poems and began making more physical and intuitive music than I had been doing earlier. Learning who you really are can be an extremely hard pill to swallow and to me, the choice appears binary, almost Matrix-like; If you choose to see all the shameful and horrible sides of your personality for what they are, you can’t go back. But, if you do that instead of keep running from yourself, a new life awaits you on the other side. During the two years that passed, I wrote the songs that became Off My Meds, and it feels like the last pages in the first chapter of my life as a recording artist. With room for something new to follow, it is a body of work that is all about transition, but most of all about gratitude for being able to reclaim a life I thought was gone forever.”

Savion is an enchanting soundscape that blends the icy wind of winter with the warmth of a Stockholm apartment fireplace. Savion is also the soaring poetry of well-chosen words, blending with electro-acoustic instrumentals tinged with an indie pop folk flavor. Their first single Broken Into sets the scene for the album in preparation, with Charlotta Ribbefjord's magnetic voice accompanied by hypnotic backing vocals, deep bass and Anders Pihlgren's gentle guitar chords. The gentleness of the instruments contrasts with the harshness of the lyrics, which depict the pain of a break-up.

In 2013 Tristan dreamt George Harrison and Tom Petty were on motorcycles circling one of those huge roundabouts in Canberra. Their long hair was blowing as they sang "You can't hide in time".

The Small Intestines play spare room rock'n'roll with a penchant for three-piece harmonies.

They formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2016 while Matt and Rob were taking some downtime from Chook Race and Tristan was on the tail-end of his solo project, Peach Happening.

Their debut album Hide in Time will be released on September 29, 2023. It was self-recorded by the band, mixed by Matthew Ford (Tenth Court) and will be released in Australia by Lost and Lonesome and in Europe and North America by Meritorio.

The Small Intestines – L.O.V.E. Love

Ils auraient pu vivre et se rencontrer il y a six décennies, quelque part entre un concert des Beatles et le comptoir en zinc d’un pub anglais : After Geography, c’est ce duo composé de deux mômes des 90’s aux allures rétro et dandy foot, pour qui jouer de la musique ensemble relève de l’évidence. Car si Julien Méret et Nicolas Baud se rejoignent, c’est bien sur cette passion fervente du songwriting et de la pop rock british des 60’s aux 90’s. Des influences dont ils infusent leur musique depuis n 2021, entre la sortie de deux maxi 45 T de 3 titres et une tournée d’une cinquantaine de dates.



Fabriquer des chansons, leur donner une voix et une texture, un corps et une enveloppe : tel est le leitmotiv d’After Geography, pour qui l’écriture tient de l’intuition et de la spontanéité autant que de la nécessité. Dans ses textes, le duo explore avec une autodérision faussement désinvolte les ares d’une génération un peu paumée : si la dépression est le mal du siècle, alors After Geography la transforme en un personnage loufoque ou en redessine les contours dans l’imaginaire et la métaphore. Sur un son sauvage mais jamais criard, des arrangements pop sophistiqués et des rythmes acidulés, le duo joue des harmonies vocales et saupoudre sa musique d’une basse mélodique et d’une guitare toujours subtile. Mais chercher à dénir le style After Geography serait peut-être, dans un sens, ne pas tout à fait le saisir. Britpop ou Glam Rock, un brin folk dans l’intention, parfois punk dans l’énergie : pour After Geography après tout, peu importe le genre, du moment qu’il y a la musique. Et c’est d’ailleurs pour mieux la servir que le duo s’entoure de deux musiciens en live et donne ainsi à ses morceaux une dimension nouvelle, plus brute, plus rock et plus primaire.

Empruntant une direction musicale plus rythmée, aux voix et au parlé-chanté plus assumés, les Charlotte Fever parviennent à faire évoluer leur univers entêtant vers de nouvelles sphères sans se défaire pour autant de la langoureuse chaleur qui leur colle à la peau. Tantôt lumineux, tantôt baignés d’une inquiétante étrangeté, toujours très mélodiques, les morceaux composés à quatre mains par Cassandra et Alexandre parviennent à bousculer la sobriété de l’électro pop actuelle en parant ses atours synthétiques de marimbas et flûtes en bois.

Lorsque Antoine et Ronan se rencontrent, tous deux font leurs armes sur la scène amiénoise : Antoine dirige énergiquement son groupe de Rockbidule, tant dis que Ronan exerce ses talents de compositeur au sein de son groupe de Popytruc. À cette époque, jouer dans les bars est non seulement autorisé , mais c'est même considéré comme une mode, ce qui est impensable en France en 2023. La toute première fois que les deux garçons partagerons la scène ensemble, ce sera lors d’un concert d’Antoine. Pour l’occasion, Ronan sera invité à rejoindre le groupe sur scène avec sa guitare pour y interpréter une reprise des Lords of the New Church. Et imaginez quel morceau ? RUSSIAN ROULETTE !
